It has been days. My whole body ached with unchecked injuries, from my stinging wrists and ankles to my ever-swelling eye. I knew if I didn’t have my eye checked out soon, I would probably lose sight in it. Granted, since I wasn’t sure what caused the trauma to it, losing my eye was the worst case. Despair thickened the room, with only the faint sounds of the chains echoing against the stone as we moved. I opened my single eye and looked across to Dasan. We had become familiar with each other’s screams with each quarterly check. Yet, we remained unbroken.
