Vanessa POV
I knew life amongst humans was going to be hard, but I never expected it to be this hard. After moving around town for two weeks for a job, I finally got called for an interview in a mansion where I applied to work as a maid.
I was banished and sent out on an exile forever, from BloodStone Pack along with my brother, Henry for lying and accusing Zia for cheating with my mate. It's hard to believe that my childhood best friend turned out to be a traitor and played me this dirty. Rowan could do nothing to defend me and speak the truth because that would bring great punishment to him. It seemed he had always desired the Alpha's throne after all, and wanted to be the next Alpha. So, confessing the truth to free me would have turned into a disaster not just for him but for Zia too.
Something tells me Alpha Sam and Luna Gloria know the truth but decided to punish me instead to cover their daughter's crime. I was after all the lowlife nobody wanted around in the Pack. I was already an outcast before being casted out because I have a dormant wolf. What use is a werewolf with a dormant wolf to a strong Pack? I had, however, pleaded for the Council members to let my brother, Henry remain at BloodStone as he had committed no offense but my pleas fell on deaf ears.
Henry and I rented a trailer with the little money I had carried from the Pack which was gotten from my trade. It's only a matter of time before everything gets exhausted and that's why any job is really important to me, right now.
I rang the bell at the gate and pressed my hands together from nervousness as I waited for the gate to open.
Living amongst humans isn't going to be too difficult for me as my wolf is dormant. I've heard werewolves often wear a kinda smell amongst humans, but I ain't sure it would be the same case for me. Henry found a job three days ago as a waiter at a restaurant. I spent the entire night, the day before his resumption at work, pleading and dragging his ears not to get mad and angry at anybody to the extent that he changes. But I trust my brother. He's cool headed and warm, but I've learnt humans are a set of difficult beings to handle and deal with.
The gate opened on its own, and I stared, amazed and stunned before walking in. The compound was wide and vast and beautiful. It looked like a place a royal would stay. Whoever lived here must be freaking rich. Before I could ring the doorbell as I got to the door, it opened and a tall and handsome figure with no trace of a smile on his face opened the door for me.
"Come in." He said and swept his hands in for me to move in.
I swallowed and a little fear pricked me on the insides as I walked slowly into the sitting room. Is he the only one living in this big mansion? My eyes swept around the room. Gold furniture, white walls, plants, and a big television. It was scantily furnished but still looked comfy and beautiful.
"Please, sit." He said, and I sat on a coach. He sat on the coach opposite mine and faced me.
"I'm Ivan." He said in a cold tone and his eyes bored into mine as though he was searching for something. It irked my skin and I felt uncomfortable. His long black curly hair is scattered all over his face and he uses his hands to push his hair and tuck it behind his ear. His green eyes were captivating and alluring and I think he's the most handsome male figure I've set my eyes on. I never thought humans could be this handsome though, and this is a shocker.
"I went through your application, and I must say this." He paused and I swallowed hard. My heartbeat gets out of control as I wonder what's coming next out of his red succulent lips. I hope it's not a rejection. I'm tired of being told 'no' to. I need a job if I must survive in this town. "I was impressed." He continued, and I heaved out in relief. He noticed and a small smile spread across his face. He even have such a beautiful smile? Unbelievable! "You're hired, Vanessa. I would like for you to start your duties today."
"Okay." I said and adjusted to the edge of the coach, ready to pay careful attention to the details that would follow next.
"I leave for work every morning by 9am and return by 6pm. I want to come back to a neat home, meal prepared..." He went over all the details and presented a list of all the tasks I must get done, daily.
"Can you live here? I prefer a live-in maid."
I thought over it for a few seconds then shook my head in agreement.
"There's a room on the first floor, the second room on your right is your bedroom. Clothings and everything a female would need has already been made available."
Really? Did he already plan my acceptance and everything even before this interview? He must be such a trustful fellow.
With all instructions given, he left for work and I stood prepared to begin my duties.
I went around the mansion first and gave myself a tour. How could he not have given me a tour? I guess he's a busy workaholic. After looking everywhere, I brought out my phone and sent a text to my brother that I had gotten a job. He responded immediately, saying he was happy and congratulated me. Then, came the painful part.
I would be living in the house as a live-in maid. I texted back.
My phone rang immediately he got the text. I supported my hands on the kitchen counter before taking the call.
"Hello, Sis." Henry said from his end.
"Hey, bro!" I said with less cheer. It's already been hard for us these past weeks and being separated from him would tear my heart the more. We really need each other for emotional support, but the pay is so good that I couldn't say no to it.
"So, I won't see you tonight?"
"Yes, but I would come home during the weekends."
"That's okay. So far I'm busy myself during the week, I will be patient till I have you back at home on the weekend."
He spoke for a while and when I told him the pay, he screamed in glee.
"Five thousand dollars! That's too much."
"Yes." I agreed. "But my boss appears to be a billionaire."
"That's good, Sis. It's very good for us." He said and after a while we said our goodbyes and ended the call.
