“What the f**k is going on here?” Alexandra demanded, the ill feeling of betrayal clogged her throat, as tears spilled from her eyes.
“Lexi, I-I, My love…” Luke hurriedly disengaged from his lover and struggled to hide his nakedness under the sheets. “I thought you were mad at me and you weren’t coming.”
“Oh, here I am, asshole.” She snapped in anger.
“Baby, please,” Luke picked up his boxers and put them on, meanwhile his mistress hid her face in embarrassment.
“Don’t you dare baby me,” She snapped in response. “I asked you a f*****g question, what the hell is going on here?”
“Adrianna?” betrayal evident as she called for her friend. “I can’t believe you would do this to me.”
Adrianna fell silent, she hid her face away from her friend in shame, “It’s not my fault that Luke chose me.”
“What are you talking about?” Luke growled at her.
“Alexa please,” He tried to reach for her but she stepped away from him. “I would never trade anyone over you.”
“Oh really? You think I’m stupid or something?” Alexandra let out a bitter laughter. “You both deserve each other.”
“Babe, I’m sorry.” He begged, “Please forgive me, Adrianna seduced me, you knew I would never do something like that to you on purpose, I was so sad about what I did to you last night and she only wanted to comfort me.”
Luke reached for her once more but Alexandra pushed him away a little too roughly making him fall to the floor.
“Don’t you even f*****g think about touching me,” She snarled at him. “You know what, I’m done with this relationship.”
“No, you can’t be done.” Luke scampered to his feet, and Alexandra turned on her heels leaving the room, Luke chased after her ignoring Adrianna who called for him in his bed, he followed Alexandra across the large hallways in his house, and grabbed her.
“Babe, please wait…” He begged. “You can’t just end our relationship just like that.”
“And why not?” She retorted with a bitter smile on her face. “Do you think I will be stuck up on you forever because you are rich and handsome? I have been deceiving myself for too long that you loved me, I should have known that you don’t since the first day you raised your hands against me.”
“No, no, you can’t do this,” He paused for a while running his hands through his hair, with an exasperated sigh escaping his lips. “I love you and I can’t survive without you.”
“Maybe you should have thought about that before you cheated on me with my best friend.” She emphasized both the best friend and the cheated, and Luke’s eyes were filled with guilt. “I’m pretty sure you can survive since Adrianna is way better than I am in bed, read my lips, Luke, I am done.”
Without letting him say another word, she opened the door and left the house in a rush, tears streaming down her face, her chest tightened in pain, almost as though she was going to have a cardiac arrest.
She needed to stop thinking about Luke and focus on her sister, Aria takes priority right now, she told herself mentally. She borrowed some money from her colleague, Bethany and went back to the hospital, even though the hurt and pain of Luke’s infidelity took a toll on her, she refused to let it affect her completely.
“Alexa, the doctor said you’re not a match, what do we do?” Mariah, Aria’s best friend asked, she seemed to be trembling, her eyebrows knitted in worry as well.
“Don’t worry,” Alexandra assured, she wasn’t so sure what she would do herself, but as the older person, she can’t panic. “I will find a way, just stay with Aria and make sure to call the nurses if she wakes up.”
“Alright,” Even though she wasn’t convinced she didn’t want to be too pushy as well. Alexandra felt hopeless, at this point, she knew that the only person she could ask for help was her father, she never relied on him for anything but at this time, she had to throw her pride away and ask him for help.
This is Aria she was talking about.
“What d-do we have here, Alexa?” Her father, Adam slurred into the phone, he was drunk again, and Alexandra rolled her eyes in disappointment. The man is a f*****g disappointment, the only thing he does was laze around all day, gamble away whatever money he had, and then drink in a stupor. “What do you want?”
“Aria is in the hospital, I might need you to come over here right away.” Alexandra even though she was angry, she tried her best to control her anger. “She has leukemia, and we need to see if you are going to be a blood match with her.”
There was a sharp silence at the other end of the phone, then she heard him murmur.
“I’m quite busy right now.” He answered and a small frown crossed her face.
“What’s more important than your children right now? I am not even f*****g asking you for the financial support, just come here and let’s see if your blood matches hers so we can do a f*****g transplant.” She could feel her cool slipping through. “Do you not know just how grave Leukemia is? It’s the same f*****g thing that killed mom, I know you didn’t care about your wife, but at least this is your child we’re talking about.”
There was another brief silence at the other end of the phone, Alexandra could feel the rest of her patience wearing off.
“Father?” She called hopefully. “Aren’t you going to say anything? Aren’t you going to do anything? You know how dangerous this is!”
“I don’t want to be bothered, why are you wasting your time, when she is going to die anyway? It’s her fault for getting the same thing that killed her mother.”
The phone went blank, and Alexandra dropped her head in frustration, even though tears were gathered in her eyes, she refused to let them fall. To her, crying is like giving up on her sister. She turned towards the exit of the stairwell, with fresh tears like spring water in her very green eyes, she was met by coal black eyes gazing intently at her.
She was hit with a sudden coldness, something that she couldn’t explain, the man was quite tall and muscular, and even though he was heavily clothed it was still obvious.
She flinched slightly, she never expected to have company, but as soon as her brain registered the mysterious-looking, but deviously handsome man standing just opposite her, she calmed.
He probably came here to answer a phone as well, but she was proven wrong when he slipped a packet of cigarettes out of his pocket and fumbled for the opening, suddenly she found herself staring hard at him, his beauty was influential enough to calm the bad feelings coursing through her.
“Are you going to keep ogling at me?” He suddenly spoke, making her flinch again, he lit his cigarette and stuck it in between his lips. “Don’t you have other things to worry about?”
“You shouldn’t smoke here.” She advised him walking up to him, she pointed to the small sign that was pasted on the wall that prohibited smoking. “It’s a hospital, you should learn to respect rules.”
“Um…” He didn’t care, he wanted to smoke and there was nothing that would stop him from doing it. “Is that so? Aren’t you in trouble? Do you have time to worry about such useless things?”
Alexandra felt her breath hitch in her throat, he probably overheard her conversation with her father, who knew how long he had been standing there wordlessly. She clenched her fists.
“It’s none of your business.” She growled at him,
“I never said it was.” He chuckled his eyes lit up in amusement, he seemed to be enjoying this and the fact irritated Alexandra a lot. How dare a stranger try to make her feel like she was some sort of entertainment?
She stopped just centimeters away from him, if he wanted to laugh she would give him something to laugh about. She reached forward grabbing hold of his cigarette in his mouth, his seductive dark eyes widened slightly in surprise when she pulled the cigar out of his mouth.
He had met a lot of women, the ones that are insane and unhinged but of all, this woman seemed to be the most unhinged one.
“This is a hospital, it is stated clearly that smoking is prohibited, if you can’t adhere to the instructions then you should leave.” She said in a low growl, but instead of the anger that she anticipated, a small smirk touched his lips.
He seemed to be even more excited than he was before, in anger she dropped the cigar to the floor and stepped on it before she stormed out of the stairwell.
The man was very handsome but different, there was something about him that pulled her to him like a magnet, and she had thought maybe it was because of his looks, indeed, she hadn’t seen a man as beautiful as he was but she didn’t have the luxury to be thinking about things like that.
“Welcome back Ms. Alexandra,” The doctor said as he adjusted in his seat. “I am sure you saw the lab results, I was given a copy just now.”
“Is there no other way?” Alexandra asked tears stirred in her eyes again.
“Well, the institution can help to find a donor for your sister, but you will need to deposit an amount, not everyone wants to give their organs for free.” He explained. “We would also need the money to outsource a reliable donor.”
“How much can I deposit?” She asked eagerly, she pulled the chair backward and sat down.
“Well, it depends on how rare her blood type is, but let’s just hold three million dollars for now.” Alexandra’s eyes widened in surprise or confusion, she wasn’t so sure. “And you might need to get it by the end of two weeks.”
“What?” She exclaimed breathlessly, where was she supposed to get three million dollars in two weeks?
