Jake's POV
Three years earlier...
"Jake, you need a drive home after school?" Luke asked me as we pulled up in front of our school.
"No, I'll take an uber. But I'll see you later, yeah?"
"Definitely." Luke shakes my hand and turns to Maddie, "If you need one, I can give you a lift." He offers.
"No, thank you. My father will drive me home." She declines.
"Thanks for the lift, Luke." I grabbed my bag and got out of the car.
"Jake," Maddie called my name, but I didn't stop and wait for her.
"Jake, please." She calls again and I hear her getting closer.
She tugs on my sleeve and pulls me back, stopping me.
"Jake, we need to talk."
"What about?" I didn't push her hands away this time.
"I swear nothing happened between us, Jake. Why won't you believe me?"
