Chapter 4

Defne was dumbfounded by his words. "You should take the opportunity to be with me, at least in this way. Can't you do it?" Defne was silent as she didn't know how to give an answer to that. She had been thinking about how to follow through with Mrs. Henshaw's task that she agreed to work on. And now she still has to think about him making her a s*x partner. With a shadowy smile on her face, she knew immediately that being successful with Mrs. Henshaw's agreement would be easier. He offered to pay her a huge amount for the period of time they would spend together as he noticed her silence. Defne saw this as a blessing to her for all the good things she had done. She quickly agreed to be his s*x partner and signed the contract. She concluded within herself that she had signed away her life and feared what would become of her when he finds out she was already being paid by his god-mother to seduce him and all. She was curious to know why he wanted her to be his s*x partner because, for what she knows, he's handsome and irresistibly wealthy and all women want to be with him. "You don't expect me to give you an explanation as to why I do what i do. Going forward, you're mine only, and you mustn't be in any other relationship with anyone. We'll take medical precautions and appropriate contraceptives to avoid pregnancy because this is a contract for just a couple of months and not a lifetime. We need to be very careful." She felt stranded at this point because she needed to oblige Mrs. Henshaw's contract. She felt like rejecting it all but remembered she had to do it all for the sake of her sick grandmother and her little sister's future. *** Defne was still in a state of bewilderment when she arrived home. She looked at her sick grandmother, lying on the couch looking so exhausted. Her little sister ran to embrace her, eagerly waiting for good news while she waited to see her only brother after a long time. She really never wanted all of these struggles and desperately wanted to be free from all of them, not minding the consequences she'd face from her agreement with Mrs. Henshaw and Omar. Sam arrived home safely, which made her so happy because she loved her brother so much but hated him for gambling. He gambled a lot and accumulated a lot of debts for her to settle. This attitude of his made her a debtor in the neighborhood. She was furious about his nonchalant behavior because they barely had enough to feed, yet he still gambled. *** In the morning the next day, Defne tried speaking to Omar for help so that she could be debt free from her neighbors because of her brother's gambling. She saw a photo frame of a beautiful woman on Omar's desk and thought perhaps it could be his fiancée no one knew about. While trying to sort some documents, she mistakenly dropped the frame, attracting Omar's attention immediately. "Why this clumsiness all of a sudden? You should only focus on work when you're here and not getting distracted by whatever it is that made you drop this picture frame," Omar lamented loudly. He asked her to leave whilst someone else came in to tidy it all. After a while, she went back to him to ask him for an advance payment so that she could settle those gamblers terrorising her brother and the family. "Hello! Mr. Omar, I want to talk to you about something please." "Not right now. We can discuss some other time." He looked pissed and restless. *** Defne came to meet him again the next day. "Mr. Omar, please listen to me for a minute." He looked busy and inattentive to her, so she thought she could meet with Mrs. Henshaw for that. She headed to Mrs. Henshaw's office, but was told that she was out of town. What bad timing! It was the only chance for her to get the money. She decided that she was going to wait for Omar's free time that same day. "Please, I'm going to go straight to the point. I need an advance right now." She said to him. Omar smiled and sighed. "You've been pestering me because of this? May I remind you that you've not even started your contract yet." "That's not my problem, because you've been so busy, and so we haven't started. The contract has been signed already, so i need the money now." "Wait until I decide to give you the payment and dont bother me," Omar said. Defne felt sad and weak because she would be in big trouble if the money didn't come through. She was so out of this strange world and had nothing else to do. After a little while, she saw the CEO cheering with her gambling neighbours. She was confused and shocked to see such a scene. "I don't want you anywhere near my girlfriend or her family henceforth. Let's settle it all once and for all today. Take your money and don't bother my woman or her family again". Omar smiled and wrapped his arm around Defne. Defne was bewildered to see all this. She also noticed the smiles and happiness around her. She felt like she was the headline in the neighbourhood and in every family. She was still in a daze as she didn't know she was going to explain to him how she owed her neighbours such an amount of money and how to explain to her family that he was not actually her boyfriend. As time went by, Omar became familiar with her family and closer to her grandmother and little sister, who really liked him a lot. She felt the status difference between her family and that of Omar's family. He was more handsome with expensive clothes, cars and so many things and her family didn't have anything at all. It was time to leave. Omar left with defne as company, and she appreciated him for all he'd done for her family. "You don't have to appreciate me because we have to make it real and convincing to everyone, especially your family and others. Remember, I'm paying you to make it all work. Stop assuming things and focus on playing your part well as a good and loving girlfriend. You're perfecct for this job and so you should make sure not to make any mistakes because I've made an advance payment.
