Wolf had worn a bullet-proof vest before, during the logging incident the previous summer, but this seemed different. The Viking informed the party that everybody would be expected to wear their vests at all times, including bathing and sleeping. He issued small single-man dome-tents only big enough for keeping bedrolls and saddles dry. The tents had no room to stand up in. The good thing was they would need them for only a few weeks. The Raven explained, "It's like being on patrol without all the riding." But, Wolf wasn't convinced. The Viking finally briefed the students and knights, "You will be given assignments by the director of the dig. The knights are going to work with me to organize a local militia so the villagers can defend themselves against bandits. We can't do much to help
