The Secret Brotherhood of the Wolf, and the girls who had joined them, now numbered sixteen, and they enjoyed the prestige of successfully pranking the squires. The squires fought back by returning with pranks of their own. One of the most successful pranks happened when the pages hid the saddles of twelve of the least liked squires. Since the pages got to ride earlier in the afternoon they were already out when the squires came out of the stables riding bareback.
It wasn't a big hardship for the squires; they all had been taught to ride bareback. The squires were still hopping mad but they couldn't do anything while under the watchful eye of the instructors. They did promise revenge, whereupon Wolf stupidly said, "Bring it on."
