Unfair

The bullets piercing through the mannequins Marky was firing using a pistol made loud sounds even though Cresia is already wearing headsets. As usual, she is only standing up beside her boss who is bursting out his frustration and anger through shooting in his favorite fire studio. After an important conference meeting in the company, Cresia booked for his shooting in the studio so she can help him wind up. She focused on how he was good at firing the bullets until her eyes reached his biceps and his face which is hardening in control. Cresia had always hated Marky Cervantes. From the way, he breathes, eats, and talks to his nasty attitude and disrespectful personality. It’s been three years since she started working with him in the company his family owns. As time passes by, she knew his known reputation in the field of business and how rich his family was in the country. Aside from her huge salary and good working position, she refused to quit the job despite his stupor and evil nature because she wants to prove to herself that she can control everything, especially Satan himself. It’s not being stupid. It’s being in control and discipline. “I want to eat,” Marky announced after shooting for an hour and regarded Cresia who was accepting his gun. “Let’s go to a restaurant.” “Yes, sir,” Cresia said and turned her back with the gun in her hand. She went to the staff to give the firing weapon to it before she heard her cell phone ringing on her pants. “Hello?” “Ma’am, this is Ms. Gonzaga,” the female employee introduced herself throughout the line. “Yes, Miss Gonzaga. How can I help you?” “Mrs. Cervantes is inside the office of the Chief Executive Director, ma’am. She is looking for Mr. Cervantes." Oh, the wrong timing must be kidding her. The CEO is not in the mood! “Okay. I’ll tell the CEO,” she said and gulped. Cresia turned her back and went to where Marky is. He currently sitting on a wooden bench while wiping his sweat all over his face and body. “Mr. Cervantes,” she called and stopped in front of him. “Mrs. Cervantes is in your office. I was informed that she would want to see you.” “My mother?” “Yes, sir.” He stood up and threw the towel to the side. Cresia helped him prepare the things before they went to the car parked in a lot. Her boss was silent the whole time while driving, and she could sense that if she speaks up, she will be thrown out of the car. They were in the middle of an intense silence until they reached the company and the floor’s office. “Mom?” he called the moment he opened the door. Mrs. Lavenia Cervantes was sitting on a sofa in the drawing area. She only stood up elegantly when she saw Marky walking towards her. Cresia closed the door as she watched the two huggings each other with motherly-son love. “My dear son,” Mrs. Cervantes said while releasing her son and holding her cheek. “I am glad to see you today.” “Me, too. I’ve missed you…” Marky said and gulped. Cresia was itching to go outside the office so that they can have a moment, but she could not without the permission of her boss. That is why she just busied herself walking towards the bookshelves and pretended to arrange the books and magazines. “Mom, there is something that you should know,” Marky said. “What is it?” Mrs. Cervantes asked. “Dad is cheating on you. I have proof! It might hurt you, but it is the truth. You have to listen to me and sign an annulment. I don’t want you being with him anymore!” Cresia looked over a well-known novel and caressed her fingers on its back. She could hear Marky's heavy breathing and desperation as he revealed what he knew. She expected for the old lady to react impulsively like normal wives do when they finally know that their husbands are cheating. Instead, the office fell silent, so she had to take a look. Mrs. Lavenia Cervantes was only sipping on her tea calmly, while Marky is clenching his fists and his shoulders were tense due to his heavy and angry breathing. After she dropped the cup of tea on the marble table, she slowly smiled and looked at her son. “I know,” the lady said and tilted her head in a witty way. “Your dad might have failed to hide it from you now.” “W-What?” “Son, I know you are not ignorant when it comes to these things,” Mrs. Cervantes stated. “I know, but I could never believe that he would also do things against your marriage, and especially you. He is betraying you, and the public knows how respectful and a man of honor he is-“ “Son, calm down.” “I will not forgive him-“ “I am dying, Diego!” After Mrs. Cervantes raised her voice and said her statement, Marky hung his mouth and looked at his mother. The elegant lady inhaled sharply and her face tightened as if it was the thing she is afraid of the most. “What are you saying?” Marky mumbled and blinked. “I have cancer,” his mother revealed, “and I am going to die as soon as possible.” Marky indulgently shook his head and did not hesitate to kneel in front of his mother. He coped both of her knuckles and kissed them as if begging. Even though he was turning his back to Cresia, she could easily tell he is being vulnerable in front of Lady Lavenia. Her heart clenched because of the scene that she tightly held the book on her chest. “M-Mom,” Marky called and his voice was trembling. “I want you to tell me that you are merely lying.” “I am not, son,” she said. “I got this chronic disease from the blood of my family and it cannot be stopped when it starts.” “Does Dad know about this?” “Yes.” “Is that why he cheated on you because he knows you are dying?” “I let him because I love him.” Marky cussed under his breath, and even though Cresia is out of this, she also started building up anger towards her boss’ father. This is so unfair to Marky’s mother!
