“I’m home!” Cresia announced as she opened the door of her house. “Grandma?”
“Oh, you already arrive! I prepared your favorite macaroni soup!”
Cresia’s heart felt relieved as she heard her grandma’s voice from the kitchen. She threw her bag on the couch in the living area before striding towards the next area. She saw her grandmother in an apron cooking a macaroni soup on a casserole, and the scent was already tasty that filled her nose.
“That looks and smells delicious!” Cresia said enthusiastically and hugged her grandmother behind. “And you smell good, Grandma.”
“Of course, I would smell good because I just took a bath!” her grandmother stated the obvious and chuckled.
Cresia watched her grandma enjoying what she was doing and felt so grateful that she still has a family. From what she knows, her father disappeared a long time ago before she was even born, while her mother died after she was born. When she heard that story when she was still a teenager, it felt like she is a living unfortunate being. But her grandmother always reminded her to remain strong, because she is notable more than she thinks.
After dinner, Cresia spent her whole night doing her project at work ---- to find women her boss could date. Her grandmother was watching a comedy show on a television in the living area, while she was on the single couch holding her laptop and researching. She has to find a woman who her boss thinks deserves him. Whatever. This is a job, so she will eradicate that throwing-up session.
“Here is the list, sir. And I have already emailed them last night each one of them. You will just have to attend them today,” Marissa announced the moment she went to her boss’ office the next day.
Marky excitedly grabbed the list written on a portfolio. He was squinting his eyes as he flipped the pages of the profiles of his soon-to-be-women. He slowly nodded.
“They are quite all impressive. Finished Harvard University, have international businesses, entrepreneurs, models with expensive families…” Marky read aloud and his eyes were glimmering of hope and excitement. While smirking, he lifted his head and gave Cresia a charming smile. “I must say that you do your job greatly, Miss Montenegro. I cannot wait for my mother to be proud of me.”
Feeling so confident and proud of the praise Marky said to Cresia, she grinned widely and jokingly bowed like a princess in front of him. He chuckled as he made a call to some businessmen. Cresia tapped her tablet to cancel all of the appointments her boss has.
“So which restaurant are we going to eat? And are you gonna leave me there?” Marky asked as he worked on his black coat.
Cresia grabbed his black necktie from the marble table and helped him dress up. It was already time for his first date and they are both looking forward to it.
“We are going to a five-star restaurant your mother owns, Mr. Cervantes,” Cresia said as she tied his necktie. “And I won’t be gone. I reserved a table of my own.”
She almost smiled when she remembered that she took this opportunity to have a date with her long-term suitor Vince. While her boss is going to be entertained by the women she listed last night, she will also have time to talk with Vince. It’s literal quits!
“Hmmm, that’s good news, then,” Marky said as he finished wearing his clothes.
He then faced the whole-body mirror just beside the bookshelf where the reflection of Cresia is also conspicuous. “Do you think the woman that I will date today will like me?”
The innocence and insecurity were both plastered on Marky’s face as if he is doubting anyone would like him. Cresia almost snorted because the question was too funny, but she does not want to offend her boss, so she just nodded.
“Sir, can’t you see yourself in the mirror?” Cresia mumbled.
“Well, I see my reflection, but I am not sure if… I am enough and perfect.”
“You are perfectly enough!” Cresia said and chuckled. “Sir, you might not lift the weight of how powerful you are, but despite your power and reputation in the business industry, you are very handsome and intelligent. I don’t want to sound intrusive, but I would respectfully comment that you have a good heart and great love for the people you care for.”
Their eyes met after Cresia said that thing to him. Marky’s lips parted as if it was the most satisfying statement he had ever heard. She only remained smiling.
“You…” he whispered, blinking as if taken aback, “know me too well.”
“I am not your secretary for nothing, sir.”
Before Marky could even respond, Cresia’s phone rang and it was an alarm. It was the time of his date with the first lady. When she turned it off, she hastily looked at her boss again and snapped him from staring.
“Your first date will be in the restaurant any minute, sir. We have not much time,” she said and stepped aside to make Marky stride.
“O-Oh,” he stuttered and cleared his throat. “Of course.”
Cresia was busy texting everyone on her phone that she could not notice how Marky repeatedly gazed at her while he was driving his Mercedes Benz. While sitting on the passenger seat, she was called by him while her eyes remained on the phone’s screen. Marky was clenching his steering wheel and could not remove the thoughts that are running through his mind. He might be getting crazy about what he is thinking, but the more he looks at Cresia, the more the answer is clear and sensible.
“Ms. Montenegro?” he called.
”Yes, sir?”
“Do you mind if I ask questions?”
She stopped using her cell phone and looked at him.
“Well, no, sir. I don’t mind. Go on.”
Marky was bothered, but Cresia was too occupied with the job she has on her mind especially her date today together with Vince. Without her knowing, Marky was also thinking, not about the dates he will have, but about his secretary.
