I have decided to visit Madhupur with my nephew during the Christmas holidays. I have planned to take Deoghar and Giridi to Madhupur for some time. Deoghar's Trikoot Hills, Giridi's Ushri Falls - Daku has not seen till date. Not without showing him this time. Dakur does not sleep at night because of happiness. Khali asks, "Kaku, when will I go to Madhupur?"
As soon as the day was settled, Daku was busy making a list of what to take with him. Be it for ten days, but still go out.
Anyway, finally one winter afternoon we got down at Madhupur station. But there was a problem with getting a place in the hotel. There are no rooms available in any hotel. The Tangawala dropped us off in front of a famous hotel; But alas! There is no room in this hotel either. The manager sounded more alarming. He said, this time, why only a hotel, not even an empty house. A lot of people come to change at this time, so the crowd is also high. When I was almost desperate for a house, he narrowed his eyes and said, "I can look for a house; but can you last?"
I said, "Why? Ghost house or not?"
The manager shook his head and said, "That's what people say. No one can stay more than one night, I hear."
At that time, Daku pressed my hand and whispered, "Come to that house, Kaku, you will see ghosts."
I said to the manager with a face like a good person, "What else can be done? Give me the address. Let's spend a few days in the ghost house."
The manager then explained where to go.
A graveyard by the river outside the city. Next to it is an old two-storied house with a huge dome. A woman lives in that house. He is the owner of the house. If he agrees, then maybe I can get a room in that house.
"From what I hear, it seems he will pay the rent," I said in a disappointed tone.
The manager said, "Look, he's your boss. But he's hired a lot of people and none of them could last more than one night. But yes, he takes the full rent in advance."
Winter is over. The Tanga brought us down to one place. He said, "Do not drive towards the slaughterhouse road anymore. The road is bad."
Both of us walked to the riverside. On the west side of the river, behind a thicket of wild flowers, I saw an old graveyard. Now you have to find the house. Fortunately, the house was not difficult to find. The house seemed to be hidden behind many thick eucalyptus trees.
When we pushed the gate and entered the house, it was dark all around. Although there is electricity in the city, electricity has not come to this village. The few houses that are settled here are almost all indigenous Christians; But it can be seen that there is no splendor in their life. After spending the whole day in bed, before evening, he quietly entered his room, closed the door, had dinner and fell asleep. No one has any contact with anyone. Don't even scratch your head for electric light.
Anyway, we entered the outer room of the house first. A very dark room.
I called out, "Is anyone there?"
no response
I called again, "Is there anyone?"
No response this time either.
Now I took out the torch from the bag and lit it. In that light, I saw another door ahead. I entered through that door. A tall building ahead. On the other side seemed to be the stairs to go up. As soon as we stepped into that building, many chickens from a cage covered with a net on the other side, as if scared, called together.
The dacoit whispered, "So many chickens! Doesn't the landlord sell chickens and eat them himself?"
I had other thoughts in my mind. Train journey all day, now if there is no accommodation then where to go?
So this time I called a little louder, "Is there anyone?"
Suddenly, a strange voice was heard very close, "Sit in the outer room."
The voice is neither male nor female. What an awkward throat. I looked around but could not see anyone.
Anyway, we stood in the outer room again. I remained standing, because there was no arrangement to sit. In the light of the torch, I saw only broken cupboards, broken drawers and several broken chairs lying face down. A thick layer of dust on the floor. I understood that no one ever comes to this room.
Suddenly a dim light came through the inner door. Just then, I saw a woman wearing a black gown, carrying an old-fashioned lamp in her hand, entered the room. Covered in a stunning black gown. A long cross hangs from the neck over the gown. The face is abnormally white. The cheekbones are a little high and therefore the rest of the cheeks are a little low. The woman was quite tall but it was not clear how old she was.
I bowed a bit hesitantly and said, "Ah...ah...you seem to have disturbed me quite a bit."
The lady said softly in that unusual expressionless serious voice, "Say what you want to say."
I hesitated and said, "I need a house for this...day ten. I will stay here...both of us. Me...and this nephew of mine...".
By this time, his aim fell on Daku. He held the fat lamp a little longer and started to look at Daku better. And at that moment I also saw him well. Also his eyes.... he is sharp and burning.... can't be understood without seeing it. I thought he was trying to swallow Daku with that look in his eyes. I quickly stood up hiding Daku.
The lady said in the earlier voice, "Why is it finally at my house?" Then he paused and said, "Do you understand seeing ghosts?"
I smiled a little and hesitated and said, "No, no, why should I come to see ghosts! I couldn't get a room in any hotel, so the hotel manager said..
