Chapter 22
JAMIE SEEMED HAPPY to see me when I arrived in the day care area, and said, “Is it time to go home?”
“You bet. Actually, I quit early today because we’re going to see about getting you enrolled in school, okay?”
“Sure. I like school.”
Rion had gotten home first, and he came out of the house when I drove up. “I’ve got all the paperwork,” he said, as he got in the car. “Let’s go.”
At the school, we left Jamie in an anteroom with the receptionist while we talked to the headmaster. She looked through Jamie’s records while we filled out an application. I placed the clipboard containing the completed document on her desk before she’d finished reading his paperwork.
“Oh, my,” she said when she looked up. “This is a very bright child.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” I said.
