Chapter 7 WHEN I WAS BACK at my desk, I buzzed Marjorie, and when she answered, I said two words. “Dictation, please.” She came into my office and sat down, pad in hand. “You’re going to enjoy this,” I said. I proceeded to dictate a formal petition for a restraining order. When I’d finished, she said, “Oh, yeah, I did enjoy that, and I’ll enjoy typing it up even more. Give me a few.” When she was gone, I reached for the phone and dialed an internal number. I identified myself to the party at the other end and said, “Can he spare ten minutes for me?” “If you can be here before two,” the secretary said. “I’m on my way.” I stopped by Marjorie’s desk long enough to tell her where I was going, then went to the elevators.
