Chapter 5: Shadows of Deception

486 Words
The tension between Roched and Suno had reached a boiling point, each man’s desire for Yesha fueling a dangerous rivalry. The air was thick with unspoken words and barely restrained aggression. Roched leaned against the bar, swirling a glass of whiskey, his eyes never leaving Suno. The dim lighting of the upscale lounge cast long shadows, mirroring the darkness brewing between them. “You think you can just walk away with her?” Roched’s voice was low, a dangerous edge cutting through the ambient noise. Suno met his gaze, unflinching. “I’m not playing your games, Roched. This isn’t about winning or losing.” A bitter laugh escaped Roched’s lips. “Isn’t it? Everything’s a game to you, Suno. Always trying to be the hero.” Suno’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching at his sides. “This is about Yesha. Not us.” Roched’s eyes narrowed, the smirk fading from his face. “Exactly. And she deserves better than your sanctimonious bullshit.” The two men stood mere inches apart, the weight of their animosity palpable. “Stay out of my way,” Suno warned, his voice a dangerous whisper. Roched’s lips curled into a sneer. “Or what? You’ll try to save her from me?” Before Suno could respond, the door to the lounge opened, and Yesha stepped in, her eyes widening at the sight of them. “What are you two doing?” she demanded, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and anger. Both men turned to her, the intensity of their confrontation momentarily forgotten. “Yesha,” Suno began, his tone softening. “This isn’t what it looks like.” Roched scoffed, downing the rest of his drink. “Save it, Suno. She deserves to know the truth.” Yesha’s eyes darted between them, confusion etched across her features. “What truth?” Roched stepped forward, his gaze locking onto hers. “That Suno isn’t the saint he pretends to be. He’s been lying to you, Yesha.” Suno’s face paled, a flash of panic crossing his eyes. “Don’t listen to him, Yesha. He’s trying to manipulate you.” Tears welled up in Yesha’s eyes as she looked between the two men, her heart torn. “I don’t know who to believe.” Roched reached out, gently cupping her face. “Believe me, Yesha. I would never lie to you.” Suno stepped forward, his voice desperate. “Yesha, please. You know me.” She pulled away from both of them, shaking her head. “I need time to think.” Without another word, Yesha turned and fled the lounge, leaving Roched and Suno standing in tense silence. As the door closed behind her, Roched shot Suno a triumphant glance. “This isn’t over.” Suno’s eyes hardened, determination settling in. “No, it isn’t.” The battle lines were drawn, and neither man was willing to back down.
