The wind howled across the black towers of House Valencrest.
From the highest balcony, Kai Draven stared down at the sleeping city below. Rain dripped from his dark hair as thunder rolled through the heavens like a warning from forgotten gods.
But Kai barely heard it.
His mind was trapped elsewhere.
That voice…
The same whisper from the underground chamber.
“The blood remembers…”
Ever since the night he touched the crimson altar beneath the academy ruins, strange things had begun happening around him. Shadows moved when they shouldn’t. Mirrors cracked without reason. And worst of all—
He kept seeing memories that did not belong to him.
A battlefield drowned in blood.
A silver-haired woman crying as the sky burned red.
And a man wearing Kai’s face standing atop a mountain of corpses.
“Kai.”
The voice snapped him back to reality.
Lyra Ashwyn stood behind him, her silver cloak fluttering violently in the storm. Her sharp blue eyes narrowed.
“You disappeared after training again,” she said. “The professors are beginning to suspect something.”
Kai turned away. “Let them.”
Lyra frowned.
“That’s not like you.”
Kai gave a bitter laugh.
“You think you know me?”
For a moment, silence filled the balcony.
Then Lyra stepped closer.
“I know you’re changing.”
The words struck deeper than Kai expected.
Because she was right.
Ever since awakening the power hidden in his bloodline, he could feel something ancient growing inside him. Something hungry.
Something alive.
Suddenly—
A sharp pain exploded in his chest.
Kai grabbed the railing as black veins spread across his hand.
His vision blurred.
The world darkened.
And then—
He saw it again.
Chains.
Thousands of them.
Wrapped around a gigantic gate floating in endless darkness.
Ancient symbols glowed across its surface.
And behind it…
Something moved.
A massive crimson eye opened slowly from within the void.
Kai Draven…
The voice shook reality itself.
Break the seal.
Kai stumbled backward violently, gasping for air.
Lyra caught him before he fell.
“Kai!”
Her expression changed instantly when she saw the black veins crawling up his neck.
“No… it’s spreading already…”
Kai looked at her sharply.
“You know what this is?”
Lyra hesitated.
And that hesitation told him everything.
“You’ve been hiding something from me.”
Thunder cracked above them.
Finally, Lyra spoke in a low voice.
“The Shadow Blood isn’t just power.”
Kai’s eyes narrowed.
“It’s a curse.”
Before he could respond—
BOOM.
An explosion erupted from below the castle.
Screams filled the night.
Both of them rushed to the balcony edge.
The front gates of Valencrest were burning.
Figures cloaked in crimson robes stormed through the courtyard slaughtering guards without mercy.
At their center stood a tall masked man holding a black spear dripping with dark energy.
Kai’s expression hardened instantly.
“The Crimson Order…”
Lyra’s face turned pale.
“They found you.”
Below them, the masked man slowly raised his head toward the balcony.
Even from that distance, Kai could feel the terrifying pressure pouring from him.
Then the man pointed the spear directly at Kai.
And smiled beneath the mask.
“Bring me the heir of Shadow Blood.”
The castle descended into chaos.
Guards clashed against the invaders.
Flames swallowed banners.
Steel rang through the storm.
Kai turned toward Lyra.
“Tell me the truth.”
Her eyes trembled slightly.
But before she could answer—
The entire balcony shattered.
A blast of crimson energy tore through the wall.
Kai grabbed Lyra as both of them crashed into the corridor behind them.
Dust filled the air.
Heavy footsteps echoed slowly through the smoke.
The masked man had arrived.
Far faster than he should have.
“You…” Kai muttered.
The intruder tilted his head.
“So the blood has awakened after all.”
Dark energy pulsed from the spear.
Even breathing near him felt difficult.
Lyra stepped in front of Kai immediately, drawing twin silver blades.
“You’re not taking him.”
The masked man laughed softly.
“You still believe you can defy fate, child of the moon?”
Lyra’s eyes widened.
“How do you know that title…?”
The man ignored her.
Instead, he stared only at Kai.
“The gate beneath the world is beginning to open.”
His voice became colder.
“And your blood is the key.”
Kai clenched his fists as darkness slowly gathered around him.
“What are you talking about?”
The masked man lowered his spear.
“When the final seal breaks…”
The corridor lights flickered violently.
“…the true king of shadows will return.”
Suddenly—
The mark on Kai’s chest burned like fire.
Shadow energy exploded outward.
The floor cracked beneath him.
His eyes flashed crimson.
And for the first time—
The darkness answered his rage willingly.
The masked man smiled.
“Yes…”
“All kneel before the heir.”
