“Damian!”
Evelyn’s scream disappeared beneath the sound of the explosion.
The rooftop shook violently beneath her as smoke and debris burst into the storm-dark sky. The maintenance ladder rattled dangerously while Serena shouted something below her, but Evelyn barely heard it.
All she could see was Damian disappearing beneath collapsing concrete.

No no no—
Her hands slipped against the rain-soaked ladder as panic slammed through her chest.
“Evelyn!” Serena barked sharply. “Move!”
Gunfire still echoed across the rooftop behind them while the helicopter tilted unevenly overhead, one side smoking heavily from the damage.
Lucas reached the neighboring rooftop first, collapsing hard against the concrete as he struggled to breathe through the pain in his side.
