Lyra's Escape

1481 Words
Ava and Lyra tried to run, but they were overpowered by Kael and his warriors. They were grabbed by Kael’s followers and carried back to the pack. “Fools!” Kael spat. “You think you can escape from me, I've got eyes everywhere.” Lyra and Ava were thrown into separate prison cages, within the pack’s dungeon. Kael watched as Lyra was thrown into the cage by his warrior. “Lyra, my love,” he said mockingly, letting out a soft chuckle. “You’ll remain here, till you decide to follow every bit of my order.” Lyra spat on his face, her eyes flashing with anger. “You'll regret your actions, Kael, I promise.” Kael laughed out so loud, using his handkerchief to clean off the saliva from his face. “You've got some gods, Lyra.” he sneered. “I'll make you regret this. You'll come begging for your life, I promise.” Lyra sighed, as she watched Kael in concern. She thought Kael could become the mate she had always desired to be with, she wished he could become a loving mate. But unfortunately for her, it was impossible. Lyra’s eyes were fixed on Kael’s. Her gaze sparkled with love and concern for him. She remembered their first night together, all the love they shared. Soft tears trickled down her cheeks as she thought of the memories. Lyra was locked in the cage, she watched as Kael turned to leave. Her heart raced with different questions. Who are you Kael? Who did I get married to? She pondered in her heart. Lyra’s heart raced with emotions. But then, remembering how Kael r***d her daughter to death, her expression turned grim. She felt a fresh hatred for Kael running through her. As days passed, Lyra’s body grew weaker. She was given little food and water, and her body still ached. But she didn't give up, she couldn't. She knew she had to find a way to escape, at least to help her best friend, Ava. Meanwhile, Ava was facing her own plight. Kael’s followers tortured her to reveal every secret that would expose Lyra’s plan of defense, but they didn't get a single word out of her lips, even after the severe torture. As days turned into weeks, Ava and Lyra’s hopes began to fade, but Lyra would not give up. One day, as Lyra lay on the ground, exhausted, her body in pain. She began to hear footsteps echoing from outside the cage. She suspected it to be Kael or one of his followers. Her eyes were fixed on the cage door, waiting in anticipation for who it might be. But unfortunately, it was neither Kael nor any of his warriors. It was Ethan, Kael’s beta. “Have your cruel alpha sent you to check if I'm dead?” Lyra sneered, her expression showing anger. “Well, I'm still alive, as you can see.” Ethan smiled. “I'm here to help you, Lyra,” he said as he unlocked the prison door. “Come with me,” he added, stretching his hand towards her. Lyra shrugged, she was confused about what to do. She didn't trust Ethan, but she knew she had to leave the cage anyway she could. Hiking herself up from the floor, she laid one hand on his. “Where are you taking me to?” she asked. “To Alpha Ryder, that's the only place you can be safe for now,” Ethan replied, as he helped her out of the cage. “What about the guards?” Lyra asked. Ethan smiled. “They've been taken care of.” Lyra looked at Ethan suspiciously, her heart pondering with many questions. Ethan’s eyes narrowed, he knew the look on Lyra’s face. “I offered them a drink,” he answered without being asked. “I added a potent sedative, which made them fall into a deep sleep.” Lyra sighed in relief, following Ethan through the corridor of the prison. Her thoughts suddenly turned to Ava. “Ava!” she exclaimed, her eyes snapped to Ethan. “What about Ava? We need to get her out of here.” Ethan shrugged, his expression turning thoughtful. “Uhm… Y- yo..” he stammered. “Let's go get her,” Lyra said, her voice firm. “No, Lyra,” Ethan interrupted. “I don't have the key to her prison door, I only managed to get yours; besides it's midnight already.” Lyra thought of Ava’s struggle, she knew Ava would be maltreated if she escaped without her. “I can't leave without Ava.” She purred, her expression filled with concern. “There’s not much time, Lyra. It's almost dawn.” Ethan insisted. “Let's go now or remain forever locked up in that cage.” Lyra hesitated a bit, she was very concerned for Ava. “You know what…” Ethan purred. “Just come with me tonight, I'll find a way to get Ava out. I'll get her out of here tomorrow night.” Lyra’s eyes narrowed. “Is that a promise?” “Sure. Besides, Ava is Kael’s sister, he won't hurt her.” Ethan assured, grabbing her hands. “We can't be so sure, Ethan.” Lyra’s voice was filled with concern. Ethan’s eyes narrowed. “We need to go now! I need to be in the pack before it's dawn. Else Zachary might suspect something.” he said, ignoring her last statement. They both journeyed through the forest until they got to the Moonstone Pack, where Ryder ruled. Ryder, who was Kael’s sworn enemy hesitated to harbor Lyra at first, but after being persuaded by Ethan, his friend, and ally, he agreed. Ethan left Lyra with Ryder and hurried back to the Blackwood pack. Lyra felt uncomfortable being around Ryder, her face fixed on the ground as soon as Ethan left. She didn't know what to expect being in a new pack of wolves with a breed she had never encountered before. But at the same time, she knew that escaping from Kael’s hands was the best she needed. “What’s your name?” Ryder asked, looking straight into her eyes. Lyra’s heart raced, hearing Ryder’s husky voice. “I - I... I'm Lyra. My name is Lyra.” her voice trembled. Ryder stepped closer to her, rubbing his jaw. “From Ethan’s report, you're Kael’s Luna,” he asked, his eyes fixed on hers. “No, I'm not!” Lyra interrupted immediately, her voice firm. “I - l was..” her voice dropped to a murmur. “How sure am I that you're not Kael’s spy?” Ryder sneered. Lyra shrugged, not knowing what to say, she remained silent. “Well,” He continued. “Don't try anything funny, because if you do, I'll cut off your head,” he warned, leaving her all to herself. Lyra trembled, her heartbeat getting faster as different thoughts ran through her mind. She wasn't a spy, but she couldn't explain why she was afraid. The sun rose over the Blackwood pack, and chaos erupted when Kael discovered Lyra’s escape. He summoned his warriors, demanding who had helped her out, but none of them knew anything about her escape. In anger, Kael turned his wrath to the warriors responsible for guarding Lyra’s prison cage. “You fools!” he sneered. “You let her escape, now you'll take her place.” He ordered the other warriors to lock them up in the cage in which Lyra was held. Immediately, Kael went to Ava, who was still imprisoned and weak. He sneered at her, his eyes fixed on hers in fury. “Tell me, Ava, Where is Lyra,” he asked, his voice firm. Ava’s eyes narrowed. “What are you talking about?” she asked, her voice low. “We were both locked up, remember?” “She has escaped!” Kael interrupted. “I know you know where she is... You were both escaping the other day.” He took a step closer to Ava. “Now tell me, where were you both escaping to?” he asked, looking straight into her eyes. Ava, still feeling weak, refused to answer, she remained silent. Kael laughed out loud. In a flash, he launched countless blows directly to Ava’s nose, causing it to bleed heavily. “Ryder… she's with Ryder.” Ava’s resolve finally broke. Panting heavily for breath, she voiced out, her voice low: “That's where I was taking her to.” Kael laughed out loud, it was beyond his control this time. “Ryder, you fool!” he sneered, pacing around the cage. “You think you can keep my Luna away from me.” Walking out of the cage, he looked towards the path that led to the Moonstone pack. “I'll come for you, Lyra.”
