Lyra’s heart raced as she saw Kara’s eyes closing. “Kara, Ka - Kara” her voice trembled, laying her back on the bed.
Lyra’s heartbeat got faster. “Kara, Kara,” she called out again, tapping Kara's shoulder.
But Kara remained silent, not moving an inch.
“No, No, No,” Lyra muttered, her voice low. She tried to carry Kara back into her hands, but she couldn't.
A wave of weakness surged into her body, her hands trembling in fear.
“No!” She thundered, her loud voice could be heard even by those outside the room. “Kara, No... No! Don't do this to me Kara.” she insisted, shaking Kara’s body.
Lyra cried uncontrollably, she couldn't stand up anymore. She fell to the ground, sobbing without control.
Just then, Ava, Kael’s younger step-sister, stepped into the room. “Lyra,” she called out, reaching out to her.
“Oh no, Lyra, what's wrong?” She asked, helping Lyra up from the floor.
Lyra’s eyes were red from crying. “It - is... it's Kara, she's not moving.” her voice cracked, pointing towards Kara’s lifeless body lying on the bed.
Ava’s eyes snapped to Kara, she observed the blood stain on the bed. “What!” She exclaimed. “What happened to her?”
Lyra couldn't answer. She remained silent, still crying.
“I need to get the healers.” Ava thundered, as she quickly left the room to get the healers.
Ava was a supportive friend to Lyra. Even though she was Kael’s step-sister, she never supported his cruelty or his maltreatment towards Lyra.
She had always been there for Lyra anytime she faced maltreatment for Kael. She remained supportive of Lyra and comforted her where necessary.
Ava returned to the room with one of the pack healers by her side. They met Lyra still sobbing, kneeling beside the bed.
The healer quickly walked towards Kara chanting some ancient songs. He placed his hands on Kara’s forehead as she chanted.
Her face suddenly turned pale, looking at Ava. “She’s gone to the Spirit world.” He said, his voice firm.
“W - what.. What do you mean?” Ava asked, her voice cracking.
“She’s dead!” He declared, looking straight into Lyra’s eyes.
“No, no... No!” Lyra spat, her eyes snapped to the healer. “I'm sure there's something you can do…”
“Yes,” Ava interrupted, turning to the healer. “That's why I brought you. You have the power to revive the dead right? Please revive her.”
“Yes please…” Lyra pleaded, her voice low.
“There’s nothing I can do!” the healer declared, his voice low. “Her spirit has gone beyond revival, she's traveled to the world beyond.”
“!” Lyra exclaimed, crying profusely. “No, Kara, come back to me.” she cried out, shaking Kara’s lifeless body.
“Is there really nothing you can do?” Ava asked, looking at the healer.
The healer shrugged “Absolutely nothing, Ava. You just need to accept your faith.” he said, as he picked his herbalism pouch and left the room.
Ava's cry increased as she watched the healer leave the room. Lyra stood by the door, crying silently too, she didn't know what to do next.
“K - Ka.. Kara…” Lyra’s voice cracked, her voice fading away...
“Kara..” Lyra whispered for the last time, her voice fading away.
Her head suddenly nodded forward, and her body slumped to the ground, unconscious. Her grief finally consumed her.
Ava rushed toward Lyra. “Lyra,” She called out, her eyes flashing with concern. “Oh no, Lyra.”
She carried her up in her hands, rushing her to the infirmary, where she was nursed back to strength and consciousness.
At the infirmary, Lyra lay in bed. She realized she couldn't stay with Kael any longer, but at the same time, she had nowhere else to go, except her father's house, where she wouldn't be accepted.
Lyra pondered her plight, her heart raising with different imaginations.
She felt a wave of pain and grief running through her, as she thought of her daughter, Kara. It seemed like her world had crumbled.
She had accepted her life as being a journey of mystery, she had accepted Kael’s cruelty towards her, but the death of her daughter wasn't an event she ever imagined.
She felt a strong hatred for Kael. She hated him so much that she wanted to hurt him.
She felt a strong desire to make Kael pay for what he had done to her and her daughter, Kara. If she had a chance, she would lash out at him.
“Kara” she whispered, her eyes getting red as she gently wiped soft tears trickling down her cheeks.
This isn't happening, it's a dream.
She thought to herself, as she turned her body to the other side of the bed.
Her eyes met with Ava. “Ava, you're here,” she muttered, sitting up on the bed. “Tell me it's a dream, Ava. Kara is alive right?”
Ava walked closer to her, she sat on the bed beside her. “W - We… we must accept our Fate, Lyra,” she muttered, soft tears rolling down her eyes, as she held Lyra’s hands. “Kara is dead!”
Ava’s heart was overwhelmed with pain hearing the news for the second time. “No!” screamed, crying again, her body shaking in grief. “This isn't happening, Ava.”
Ava quickly wrapped her hand around Lyra’s shoulders, comforting her and crying along with her.
“I must leave this park!” Lyra declared, her voice firm and determined, looking straight into Ava’s eyes.
Ava nodded in agreement. “I'll help you, Lyra,” she said. “I'll find a way to get you out of here. You can't stay with Kael anymore.”
Lyra shrugged. “Now, Ava!” she turned.
Ava swallowed hard. “Wh - what… Uhm..” she stammered, confused about what to say.
“Yes, Ava. I want to leave now!” Lyra muttered, her gaze still fixed on Ava.
“Alright, Lyra, let's go!” Ava said, getting up from the bed. “I'll take you somewhere safe.”
Lyra quickly got up from the bed, she followed Ava out of the infirmary. Though she was feeling pains around her body, she was fueled by determination to leave Kael.
Ava held Lyra’s hand leading her out of the pack. They walked silently, the only sound heard was from the rustling leaves underfoot.
As they walked through the forest, Lyra’s heartbeat got faster and faster in anticipation. She did not know what fate had in store for her but she was sure that she had to be as far as possible away from Kael if she had to be safe.
All of a sudden there was a sound of growling, like a wolf behind them.
“What’s that, Ava?” Lyra asked as they increased their pace.
Ava’s heart raced. “I don't know, Lyra,” said Ava, her voice low. “Let's walk faster.”
But as they walked faster, the sound behind them increased.
“Run!” Ava declared.
“No, Ava,” Lyra interrupted her voice firm. “Let's wait to see what it is.”
Ava looked at Lyra in fear, her heartbeat increased, getting faster.
They stood still, their hearts racing in anticipation.
Ava and Lyra’s heart pounded as they swiveled around to see the source of the noise.
Their eyes widened in fear as they saw the last person they ever expected to see.
“Kael…” they exclaimed simultaneously, taking a step backward.
Kael flashed a cold smile at them, as he walked closer to them. “Surprised?” he chuckled.
“You've got some gods, Lyra” he growled, his expression turning furious, as he got closer to them. “Where do you think you are running to?”
“Get off, Kael!” Ava screamed.
“Ava, my dear sister,” Kael muttered, letting out a gentle chuckle. “You should be supportive of your brother, don't you think so?” he asked, his eyes locked on Ava’s.
Lyra stood still, not saying anything. A wave of fear ran through her being, she didn't know what to expect.
Kael’s eyes snapped to Lyra, his gaze filled with wrath. “And you, Lyra,” he said, standing right in front of her, his face close to hers.
Lyra’s body froze, she couldn't move.
