Chapter 8

“I've already taken care of the accident, Dylan,” Mr. Belgeorence began, his voice smooth yet laced with an undertone of danger. “It was free from the knowledge of the media and the police, and I've silenced the necessary parties.” Dylan, seated at the opposite end, gave a slow nod, his fingers tracing the edge of a whiskey glass without taking a sip. He wasn’t entirely surprised by Belgeorence’s words. The man was known to have a reach far beyond legal confines, though it wasn’t something spoken about openly. It was the unspoken truth that made Belgeorence both powerful and dangerous. “I offered them enough money to shut their mouths up,” Belgeorence continued, pacing slowly across the room. “All witnesses have been handled. I deleted footage from every source. The traffic cams, the nearby buildings—anything that could possibly identify the accident is gone.” He stopped in front of Dylan, leaning down slightly as if to make his point clearer. “It’s as though it never happened.” Dylan nodded again, his eyes dark with thought, still fixed on the amber liquid in his glass. His lawyer's words gave him some measure of relief, but a deep-rooted anger gnawed at him beneath the surface, an anger that had only grown since the accident that had changed everything. Mr. Belgeorence narrowed his eyes, observing Dylan closely. “But how about the girl?” he asked, voice soft but deliberate. “Aki, right?” At the mention of her name, Dylan's grip on the glass tightened slightly. His jaw clenched for a moment before he spoke. “I confiscated all of her belongings,” he muttered, his voice low and filled with barely contained rage. “Her phone, her ID, everything. She’s completely isolated, cut off. She won’t talk. I’ll make sure of it.” Belgeorence raised an eyebrow but said nothing. His client was clearly furious, but the legal strategist in him knew that anger, if unchecked, could lead to mistakes—mistakes he wasn’t willing to let happen. “And what exactly are you planning, Dylan?” Belgeorence asked, his tone shifting to something more calculated. “What do you intend to do with her?” Dylan’s eyes finally lifted from the glass and locked onto Belgeorence’s.“I want revenge,” Dylan said simply, his voice calm, but there was a bitterness in his words that told of a deeper torment. “Revenge,” Belgeorence repeated, more to himself than to Dylan. “And how do you intend to make her pay for what she’s done? What is your plan?” Dylan stood up, his tall frame casting a long shadow across the room. He ran a hand through his disheveled brown hair and walked toward the window, staring out into the city skyline without really seeing it. His voice was barely above a whisper when he spoke again. “I haven’t figured out all of the details yet… but I will. She’ll pay for everything she’s caused.” Belgeorence crossed his arms, watching Dylan’s back. “Be careful, Dylan,” he warned. “Revenge is a dangerous path. I’ve seen men in your position lose everything because they couldn’t control themselves. You have resources, you have influence, but don’t underestimate her. She’s a loose end that needs to be dealt with properly, not emotionally.” Dylan let out a bitter laugh, turning to face Belgeorence. “You think I don’t know that? You think I haven’t thought about how this could spiral out of control?” His voice rose slightly, filled with frustration. “I’ve lost everything, Belgeorence! Everything! My fiancée is at the hospital because of her. “ He slammed the table not so hard but enough to raise a tension. “Do you understand? Aki causes the accident!” Belgeorence stayed silent, letting Dylan’s anger play out. The silence hung in the air for a moment before Dylan spoke again, quieter this time. “Kaye’s suffering. Motionless and lying at the hospital. I couldn't even know when can I see her again. Her smile. Her laugher. She shattered it all.” His voice cracked with a mixture of sadness and rage. “That’s what I should make sure Aki suffers for what she’s done.” Belgeorence took a measured breath before speaking again. “You have to be smart about this. If you make a mistake, everything I’ve done to cover this up will unravel. The police might not know the full story, but they’re not blind. They’ll catch on if you get sloppy.” Dylan’s gaze dropped to the floor. He knew Belgeorence was right. His anger, while justified, could lead him to make a misstep that would land him in prison, or worse, drag his family’s name through the mud. He couldn’t let that happen. “I’ll be careful,” Dylan finally said, his voice low but steady. “But I need her to feel the same pain that I do.” The room fell into an uneasy silence, the weight of Dylan’s words heavy between them. Belgeorence’s mind was already calculating, thinking of ways to steer this situation in a direction that wouldn’t implode. He couldn’t let Dylan’s rage become a liability, not when they were already walking such a fine line. After a long pause, Belgeorence spoke again, his tone more authoritative. “I’ll continue to handle the legal side of things. Make sure there are no loose ends on my end. But as for Aki…” He let the words hang in the air, letting Dylan finish the thought for himself. Dylan nodded. “I’ll take care of her.” “I trust you will,” Belgeorence replied, his voice cold and controlled. “But remember, if you need help, you call me. I’ve dealt with people like her before. Don’t act impulsively.” The room seemed to grow colder, the tension between them palpable. Dylan didn’t respond, but his silence was enough. Belgeorence knew that this was no longer just about law or order. It was personal. And when things got personal, people did dangerous things. Mr. Belgeorence send his goodbye to Dylan as he walked through the door. He was staring at him until his shadow had completely vanish. Realizing all of the lawyer’s words, he thought of being too much for Aki, however, his anger towards her will never flatters. He shook his head, then closed his eyes. He was thinking of some ways to penalized Aki. To make her suffer. Maybe he could take his revenge through her family, or maybe acquaintances. He doesn't know. Dylan wasn't really sure what to do.
