KATHERINE’S POV – The door clicked shut. Footsteps faded. And then… silence. I lay there for a few more seconds, making sure they were gone. My heartbeat thundered in my chest. I hadn’t misheard them. An auction — like I was some twisted prize in a gang game. And Jake… he had no idea. I sat up slowly, my bare feet touching the cold concrete floor. My body trembled—not from fear, but adrenaline. I had to get out. Or at least, be ready before they moved me. My eyes scanned the room. It was basic — four gray walls, a single bulb swinging above, one wooden bed, a rusted mirror, and a broken dresser shoved in the corner. No camera that I could see, but that didn’t mean they weren’t watching. I stood and walked to the dresser, quietly opening each drawer. Nothing but dust and splinters
