Katherine stirred beneath the warm blanket, her body aching as if she’d been through a war. Her eyelids fluttered open slightly, the room around her dim and quiet. But then—his presence. She could feel it before she even saw him. Andrew was sitting beside her, elbows on his knees, eyes locked onto her like she was some fragile painting he couldn’t stop studying. He didn’t blink, just stared… and that unnerved her. She shot upright instinctively—only to wince as pain shot through her ribs and shoulder. Her eyes darted to him, filled with confusion, fear… and rage. The memories rushed back like a tidal wave—the darkness, the blood, the pain, her screams. And he just sat there. “Wakey, wakey,” Andrew murmured softly, like none of it had happened. Like he wasn’t the reason she was broken.
