Morgan sat trembling on the bench for a moment after Cora disappeared from her view. Misty sensed Morgan’s distress and jumped up on the bench with her, rubbing her head against Morgan’s chin. Without thinking, Morgan began to stroke the kitten from her ears to the tip of her tail. The movement helped her calm down, and then as she felt more like herself, she began to process what she had seen.
