Morgan and Kathy stood next to Captain Earl and watched Jenny and Nate begin their search of the large room that served as the sleeping quarters for the crew. The beds were bunks and not suitable for a large person. There was a small desk that was shared by all. The trunks that held the crew’s clothes and personal items stood stacked to one side of the room.
Jenny and Nate went through each drawer, looked under bunks, and searched the piles of clothes on the ends of the beds. The captain watched their every move, but stayed out of their way, giving them the space to do their job. While the two officers searched, Morgan’s eyes focused on the stack of books sitting haphazardly on the corner of the desk.
