It didn’t take long for rumors to start and spread on Pearl Island, and today there were two juicy ones for the islanders to share.
By the time late afternoon rolled around, people were beginning to show up at the pier.
“Quite the crowd for this trip,” Captain Rose said to Morgan as she followed her last passenger off her ship. She had maneuvered her ship into its position to let off the afternoon passengers and their cars. Morgan could hear the astonishment in her voice as the woman gestured at the number of residents lining the rails. “I knew something was going on but had no idea it would create such a crowd. I listened to the Coast Guard’s exchanges with the police on and off all afternoon. But I never expected this.”
