Chapter 9: My Baby

491 Words
Lena gently placed Ellie on her soft bed, tucking a strand of the little girl’s hair behind her ear. Ellie still looked upset, her lips slightly pouted as she held onto Lena’s sleeve. “Baby, I’ll be right back, okay? Just a quick shower.” Ellie didn’t let go immediately. Her big, round eyes stared at Lena, uncertain. “You promise?” she asked in a tiny voice. Lena’s heart melted. She leaned down and kissed Ellie’s forehead. “I promise.” Finally, Ellie loosened her grip, letting Lena go. Lena quickly grabbed her pajamas and rushed into the bathroom. The warm water helped ease some of her tension, but her mind was still on Ellie. That young maid had really pissed her off. The thought of anyone laying a hand on Ellie made Lena’s blood boil. How could someone treat a child like that? Lena took a deep breath. Calm down. She finished her shower quickly, dried herself off, and changed into her soft pajamas. As soon as she stepped out of the bathroom, Ellie’s eyes lit up. “Lena!” Ellie giggled, reaching out. Lena smiled and climbed into the bed, lifting Ellie onto her lap. She wrapped her arms around her, hugging her close. “My baby.” Ellie giggled again, snuggling into Lena’s chest. Lena’s heart felt so full. She ran her fingers through Ellie’s soft hair, soothing her. “Did that mean girl scare you?” Lena asked gently. Ellie huffed, crossing her tiny arms. “I wasn’t scared! I was mad!” Lena chuckled. “Oh? My baby is a little fighter, huh?” Ellie nodded proudly, but then she buried her face in Lena’s shoulder, her voice small. “I don’t like when you’re not home…” Lena’s heart squeezed. She hugged Ellie tighter. “I’ll always come back, baby. You don’t have to worry.” Ellie sighed softly, relaxing in Lena’s arms. Evening came, and Lena sat at the dining table, flipping through her textbooks. She needed to study, but Ellie refused to leave her lap. Not that Lena minded. She kept one arm wrapped around Ellie while she took notes with the other hand. Ellie, meanwhile, was busy playing with Lena’s long hair. She twirled the strands around her little fingers, giggling as she made tiny braids. Then, she started messing with the first button of Lena’s shirt. Lena glanced down. “Baby, what are you doing?” Ellie pouted. “It’s loose. I wanna fix it.” Lena smiled, letting Ellie continue her ‘fixing’. The little girl’s tiny fingers struggled to button it up properly, making Lena chuckle. The warm glow of the chandelier, the soft hum of the night, the weight of Ellie in her arms—it all felt so perfect. Lena had never imagined she’d feel so happy just holding a child. But Ellie wasn’t just any child. She was her baby. end of the chapter ---
