Elenora POV
I tried focusing on the doctor as he gave me discharge instructions, but all I could see was the other men in the room. The man who questioned me was back along with what seemed like 3 warriors. I was worried what they would do to me when the doctor left. My gaze was forced back on the doctor.
“Any questions?”
“No doctor, thank you.” I heard Lilith chime in. “You weren’t even paying attention.” I rolled my eyes at her and watched the doctor leave. My eyes focused on my questioner. “These warriors are going to lead you back to the pack border. From there you are to leave this land and never return. If you do you won’t be going to the hospital next time. You will be in our cells.” The authority was rolling off him so much that if I didn’t know better, I would assume he was the Alpha. I could smell the Beta on him though. I nodded at him, not willing to speak. The warriors unchained me. Two of the positioned themselves on either side of me and grabbed my arms, gently but firmly. The third led the way. We walked out of the hospital and into the forest. I had no clue where the border was, but I sensed they would lead me far away from it. They don’t want a rogue. For the first time the thought of being alone in my hut threatened to make me drop. “You won’t be alone. I will always be here for you.” I smiled and reminded myself that Lilith was right. She would always protect me. I could do this with only her voice in my head.
I don’t know how long we walked when the warriors let go of me. “This is where we leave you. Remember don’t come back on our pack grounds.” I watched them walk away until they were out of sight.
“Lilith do you know where we are?”
“No. Shift and I will find our way home.”
I shifted after undressing. I didn’t have much for clothes, so I carried what I was wearing in my mouth. Lilith carried us home as fast as she could but when we got there, I really wish she hadn’t. Our hut and everything we owned was burned to the ground. I couldn’t believe it. Was it Father or the three rogues who tried to kill me? I had no answers, but I couldn’t stay here. Lilith was thinking the same thing. “If they realize we aren’t dead they will come back to find us.” I nodded and let some tears fall out of the eyes of my wolf form. Running again. We haven’t ran since we found the hut 4 years ago. For the 8 years before that we were never in once place for more than a few nights, afraid Father would find us. When we found the hut it just felt right, it felt like home and now that was gone. We couldn’t let it break us though. Our body was not completely healed, and it would take so much longer now. We took off. I let myself feel the sadness for our loss while Lilith focused on finding us a place to bunk for the night, far enough from the hut.
I don’t know how long we were running when we stopped. We found a secluded, protected spot. We stayed in wolf form, knowing it was safest. We fell into a fitful sleep with dreams of fires and pain.
The sun was on its way up when we woke up. Lilith couldn’t detect anything out of the norm, so we shifted back into human form. I dressed and looked around me. I didn’t see anything I recognized. I wondered where Lilith brought us. I decided to walk for a bit to try to find my bearings. One of the good things I noticed was it seemed to be teaming with wildlife. I was eager for something real to eat. They kept me on a liquid diet at the hospital until I was discharged. I never got a real meal. I realized that I have never had a real meal. It’s always been meat, berries, and leaves. I know there are other things out there, but there has never been room for it as a rogue. I undressed and shifted back into a wolf. I let Lilith take the reins and hunt until we had enough for a good size meal. Maybe I can get to a point where my ribs don’t stick out anymore. We made our way back to our secluded spot to fix our meal.
Max POV
“WHAT THE f**k?” I screamed into the forest. When I went back to see her remains and possibly play if there was anything good left and there was nothing. Animals would leave bones, so this meant she fooled me. I was seething with anger. No b***h would ever fool me. I was going to find her and kill her. I tried to pick up her scent, but it had been almost 5 days since we left her. I had meant to come sooner, but I ended up finding someone who needed my attention. I didn’t kill her though. She did the smart thing and yielded as soon as she saw me. She was chained back at the house ready for me to use whenever I wanted. I just needed to get away from her whining and I needed to take my rage out on something. I could so easily break her, but then I wouldn’t have someone to do my bidding. I ran to the hut that I had burned down. I could smell her, but it was fading. I quickly followed the scent. Death was coming to her.
