Chapter Four

Elenora POV

Was this the afterlife? It was not at all like I imagined. There was so much pain. Too much pain. Was I in Hell? “No Ele you are alive.” I started at the sound of Lilith. With her assurance I opened my eyes. The moon was on its way out and I was alone. I could barely move. Instead I focused my energy on Lilith.

“Can you tell me what happened? The last thing I remember is going to sleep in the hut.”

“Oh Ele, you don’t want to remember the rest of it. I will keep this memory, so you don’t have to. You need to get up and take us home. The animals will get us.”

“Can we shift. I am afraid to move.”

“We are too injured to shift. We may not even make it through the night. What happened was bad. It was so bad.”

I could feel Lilith, my protector and best friend, become terrified. Nothing ever scared her, and this scared me. I had to be the strong one right now though. I would not make her tell me what happened. I tried to get up. When I moved the pain seared through me and made me cry out.

“Quiet! You don’t want them to come back.”

I swallowed and tried to keep quiet as I got up. Every move was excruciating. I don’t know how I kept going. I couldn’t orient myself to where I was. The pain was so much that I was barely conscious. I just walked until I couldn’t anymore. Lilith kept urging me on, wanting to get as far away as possible. I started to see stars clouding my vision. I knew I was not going to be able to hold on much longer. The pain, oh the pain. “I am so sorry Lilith.” That was my last through before collapsing and blacking out completely.

Titan POV

‘Beep Beep Beep Beep’. Ugh. I rolled over and tried to shut off the alarm. I finally connected with the right button and the beeping stopped. I was so not ready to get up, but I was acting Alpha right now with Leviathan away, so I had to get up early and check on the perimeter before combat practice. I opened my crusty eyes. The clock said it was 5:30am. I got up and threw on some clothes and went to the bathroom to splash some cold water on my face. I headed downstairs for some breakfast. While my head was stuck in the fridge, I felt a mindlink from one of the perimeter warriors. He had linked me and Jericho. “Someone came in through our southern border. She is hurt badly but may be a threat. Come quickly please.” I shut the fridge and ran outside where I shifted quickly to get there. Our land was not the biggest, but the run is quicker in wolf form. “On my way.” I heard Jericho say the same thing before the mindlink was cut. I made it to the border before he did. I saw a naked female crumpled on the ground with a few warriors around her. I shifted back and pulled on some shorts that was provided to me. I turned towards the closest warrior, the one who alerted us.

“What happened?”

“We don’t know. I saw her walk this way. I was about to yell out a warning then she collapsed. She needs a doctor, but she isn’t part of the pack. What do you want us to do?”

I looked at Jericho, who joined us while the warrior was talking. She was not part of the pack and we had lawful reason that we had to do anything but drop her on the other side of the border or lock her in the cell. “Take her to the hospital. Ensure she is guarded and chained to the bed. Double patrols just in case this is a trap.” Jericho nodded in agreement. “I will go with her and keep you updated with her progress. Let me know if you need anything different from me Beta Titan.” I nodded in approval. The warrior scooped the woman up then they went in the direction of the hospital. I mindlinked all the warriors. “We are doubling patrols. I need 10 extra right now and 10 extra tonight. 12-hour shifts. This change will be in effect until further notice. I listened as 10 volunteered. Report now. The rest of you report at 6pm. If you are scheduled to relieve the warriors on shift now do so at the regular time.” I cut the link after I heard agreement from everyone. This isn’t how I hoped this day was going to go.

I shifted back into wolf form and took the rest of the time to run the rest of the perimeter. Everything else looked ok. Nothing lurking and the warriors who volunteered were taking their places. Every inch of the perimeter was in sight of a warrior. I went back to the pack house for a quick breakfast before combat practice. We did what we could to keep our human bodies in top shape. I threw on some shorts that were on the porch and grabbed a breakfast muffin from the kitchen. I went up to Alpha’s office to have a private mindlink with him. I sat in his chair and took a bite of my muffin. I extended a mindlink with him. He had to accept it since I was lower rank, but I knew he would.

“Leviathan. Do you have a minute? We need to discuss something important.”

“Yes. Is everything ok? Do I need to come back? It would be no skin off my back. I hate these boring business meetings.”

“Not sure. We had a rogue female come into our borders today badly hurt. I am not sure if she is going to make it. Jericho is with her and will give me an update when he has one. I doubled patrols and ran the perimeter. Everything seems ok.”

“That is odd. We have not had any issues with the rogues, but maybe they are trying to start something. Keep a close on the situation and keep the patrols doubled until I get back. I trust you to keep everything handled. I am going to stay here for now. Link me when she wakes up and gives us some information or if other rogues start coming.”

“Yes Alpha. Now get back to business.”

I felt Leviathan cut the link. I took the opportunity to mindlink Jericho.

“What is the news?”

“The doctor has her sedated and is working on figuring out the extent of her injuries. So far it sounds like someone tried to kill her. She has several broken ribs and fingers as well as bruises, scratches, and bite marks everywhere. She was sexually assaulted as well. Doctor says there is extensive damage. He is taking her to get a picture of her internal organs and to check for bleeding. Her outlook isn’t good. Not sure when she will wake up or when she will be discharged.”

“Stay until you get a complete picture then come find me.”

“Yes Beta Titan.”

I cut the link and licked muffin from my fingers. I headed to combat practice to kick some ass.
