Elenora POV
I screamed and ran in the opposite direction after shifting. Lilith was focused on getting us out of here, but I could tell our body wasn’t like it used to be. I could sense him gaining on us. “You can do this Lilith. Please don’t let him do that to us again. We won’t make it out this time.” I could feel her agreement, but she was already pushing herself. The pain from our injuries was just too much. Every breath brought in shearing pain. I was so focused on the pain and pursuit that I didn’t notice the scent of others until I felt our chaser stop. I saw several people coming at us, some wolf and some human. I realized we had driven ourselves back in to the pack’s home. I quickly shifted to show that I was not a threat. “Please don’t kill me. I didn’t mean to come into your territory. He is chasing me. He is going to kill me. Please help us.” I begged, hoping the men were not cruel. They made it to me and stopped. They didn’t kill me. When they saw nothing following me two of the men still human roughly grabbed me and started dragging me to the pack land. I noticed the rest didn’t follow. I hoped that meant they were taking me seriously and the man would die.
I realized they were taking me to the pack house. It was a modest three-story home. They took me to the outside basement entrance. I saw it was their cells. The cells were just bars with no walls between. I saw with horror what was on the walls. Blood. I tried to struggle, but I was too weak. The men cuffed me so that I was suspended in air with my arms and legs spread out. I realized I was still naked and tried to cover myself, but I couldn’t move. I did the only thing I could and tried to contact Lilith. “Which one was that? I remember him now, what he did.” I could feel Lilith becoming protective in my mind. She snarled out his name “Max.” I shivered at the name.
I watched as the Beta I met last time came into the basement. He stood outside my cell. I started to tremble in fear again. He was here to hurt me. I could feel the hostility from him. He spoke in a voice filled with authority. “You were given the chance to leave peacefully after your attack, but you chose to come back. No one was following you mutt so tell me what is your plan with my pack? Do you have more rogues following you? Are you trying to weaken our defenses?” He barked out so many questions my head started to spin. Do I answer him? Surely Father isn’t working with this pack. I open my mouth to say something, but nothing comes out. I can’t say anything even if I wanted to. The fear I feel has paralyzed me. I can only hope they kill me quickly. My fear has muffled the sounds around me. I see Beta talking, but I can’t hear what he is saying. He balls his fist and motions to the warrior. The warrior takes something from a drawer, but I can’t see it. Turns out, I don’t have to see it. I can feel it as the whip lands on my back. I arch my back in pain and scream, tears running down my face. I try to struggle away, but it’s hopeless. I feel it come down on my back again and again. Beta is talking to me, but I still can’t hear him. All I can hear is the whip landing on my back and the screaming in my ears. The pain is almost too much to bear, but then I smell it. It smells like the forest after a midnight rain. Lilith howls in my head as the scent makes me forget about the pain on my back. Mate.
Max POV
I watch as the warriors fan out, searching for me. I stay well-hidden until they turn back to their border. I sneak away fuming with anger. They took my prize. I run until I make it home. Rage fueled my every step. I will get her back.
