Crossroads

Meanwhile, Lily sat in the solitude of her room, lost in her thoughts. She reflected on her life and the twists of fate that had brought her here. She remembered how her mother had always been by her side, up until her 15th birthday. That day, her father had introduced his new fiancée, a woman who had once been his assistant. The fiancée played the victim, claiming she had been pregnant but had an abortion, manipulating Lily’s father for his money. Lily’s family knew the truth, but no one spoke up. In another painful memory, Lily recalled how her mother’s assets had been transferred to her account. Her grandfather, who had always been against her father’s second marriage, had given everything to Lily before he passed. “Grandpa knew the truth,” Lily thought as tears welled up in her eyes. The weight of her memories was too much, and she let the tears fall freely, her heart aching for the past she couldn’t change. In Jacob's living room, Jacob stands with arms crossed, frustration etched on his face. His mother is dragging his younger brother along, worry painted across her features. "This is not what I expected!" Jacob exclaims. His mother, narrowing her eyes, responds seriously, "She’s the daughter of a mafia, a huge millennial!" Jacob interrupts, disbelief evident. Mom, her father is not hers! She’s the one who helps Mathew with the other kids. Mathew, standing nearby, nodded in agreement. Concern flashes across their mother's face as she glances between Jacob and Mathew. "Just don’t eat anything from her!" Jacob raises an eyebrow in confusion. "Mom, what is she?" Meanwhile, in Riya’s room, she sits on her bed, distressed, recalling her conversation with Jack. What if I end up living with him? Oh no..." she thinks. Riya's parents enter, holding clothes, and her father announces, Get ready! We’re going to a party. Riya nods, looking apprehensive as her friend Jas helps her prepare. Riya tries to call Lily, but it goes unanswered. Jas gives her a thumbs-up, attempting to lighten the mood. "Let’s go!" she says. Outside, Jas sits by the swimming pool, her feet dangling in the water, enjoying the calm. Back in Lily's room, the doorbell rings. A disheveled and clearly drunk Lily opens the door to find Jacob, concern etched on his face. "Lily, are you okay?" he asks. With a wide, swaying smile, she replies, "I’m totally fine!" Stumbling back into the room, she dances carelessly as Jacob enters, taking in the messy surroundings and a bottle of soju on the table, his concern deepening. Noticing Jacob's worry, Lily shifts the conversation. "I think your mother doesn’t like me," she says, her tone turning emotional. "No one loves me because of my background." She gestures toward Jacob, declaring, "Do you know I have more money than you?" She shows off her flashy jewelry, and Jacob chuckles softly, trying to keep the mood light. But suddenly, Lily's mood swings; tears spill down her face. No one wants me, including my father. Why do I need to be in this world? She cries, moving toward the balcony, contemplating jumping. Jacob quickly grabs her wrist, their faces inches apart. "Lily, don’t!" he urges. Tears glisten in Lily’s eyes as she looks into Jacob’s. "Do you love me?" she asks. Jacob’s eyes widen, caught off guard. "Lily..." he begins, but before he can finish, she kisses him. Instinctively, Jacob pulls her closer. They break apart, both breathing heavily. Lily smiles, though insecurity flashes in her eyes. "Of course, you don’t love me," she murmurs. Collapsing onto the bed, she looks vulnerable as Jacob shakes his head in disbelief. "You look like a puppy," he says gently. Jacob helps her get comfortable, pulling the covers over her. "Do you?" she asks, her eyes fluttering shut. I do. Good night, Lily, he replied softly, tucking her in with care. Meanwhile, down by the pool, Jas and Thomas watch the scene unfold through the window. Great move, Ms. Lily Flores! Thomas comments, causing them to gasp and laugh. Jas blushes while Thomas, now serious, asks, "So, how’s your life been?" Jas exhales dramatically. It’s fine as hell. How about your girlfriend? She retorts. Thomas laughs, shaking his head. "I lied about that to see your reaction!" Jas looks shocked, her eyes wide. "Huh?!" Leaning in, Thomas's expression turned serious. I’ve liked you since school. You have such a great vibe. He hesitates, looking nervous. "If I ask you out, will you...?" Suddenly, Jas stands up, checking her watch. "It’s getting late." They walk back to their rooms, the atmosphere charged with tension and excitement. "I’ll wait for your answer!" Thomas smiles as he heads inside. Jas watches him go, a hopeful smile forming on her face. Meanwhile, at the party, Jack's parents greet Riya with warmth. "Great to see you!" Jack's dad says, and Jack hugs Riya, her parents surprised, their expressions a mix of shock and delight. "Ohhh!" Riya's mom exclaims. As Jack’s friends join them, one girl with red eyes on Riya and comments, "You look like an expired product in a new one!" Jack confidently holds Riya’s hand and approaches her parents. "I’ve liked your daughter since our first day of college," he declares. Caught off guard, Riya thinks, "What is happening?" Jack's parents smile warmly, chiming in, "We like her!" Riya's parents exchange anxious glances, feeling the pressure. "She’s just 21; let’s not rush things," Riya's dad says, pulling her aside. "Thank you for inviting us," Riya's mom added. Jack offers to drive them home, his tone friendly yet cautious. "I’ll drop you off," he says. In the car, Riya sits quietly, tension thick in the air. "We like you, Jack, but she’s our only daughter," Riya's dad states. Finally, Riya speaks up, her voice steady but hurt. Do you think I’m a toy? I accepted being your girlfriend in college, but this is too much! Frustration bubbles over as she continues, Lily told me you’re using me. You only see your anger and revenge! With that, she storms out of the car, leaving Jack stunned and speechless. In his thoughts, Jack wonders, "What just happened?"
