Nyra's pov. My heart stopped. What did he mean? His jaw tightened, and I fought the urge to ask him what he was talking about, but something told me that he already knew what I was going to ask, because he whipped around and walked towards the dark hallway. I took a few steps towards him, too curious to let him go. “Wait, Ronan. What do you mean by what you just said?” My voice was barely audible, a testament to how intimidated his presence made me. I could feel his anger, like a living, breathing thing, becoming even heavier with my question. He looked over his shoulder at me, eyes dark and filled with terror, forcing me to take a step back. He didn't say a word, he simply went on his way, disappearing into the darkness like he was never there. He took his aura with him, and I was finally able to breathe, but his words stayed with me, giving me yet another thing to worry about. Something much stronger than Alpha? What could that be? Nothing of that sort existed, except for lycans and I didn't even think they were real. “He's just messing with me.” I concluded, shaking off the thought and shuffling towards the kitchen. I had to get started on dinner. I was sure that they would be famished after their game. Kael and Dante came in an hour after Ronan, and within minutes of their return, they were already in the dining room, waiting and chattering amongst themselves. I could hear part of their conversation, it was mostly about hockey, but occasionally, I heard my name being thrown around. Stepping out of the kitchen with the food in my hands, their eyes rested on me, but there was nothing calm about them. Their gazes were ravenous, obsessive, and made my stomach twist into knots. I almost tripped on my foot, but I managed to keep my balance long enough to place the big tray of macaroni and cheese on the table. I fought so hard to keep my eyes off them, but that didn't help, I could feel them. I could hear them. Kael was loudest, his heavy breathing and shifting bones making my eardrums hurt. He was restless, impatient, and his eyes burned like charcoal, the same one my mother used to burn my skin when I was a kid. Dante? He was trying to hide it, to hide how much he wanted me. Gosh… I still couldn't believe it, that they were my mates. Dante tried not to stare, tried not to feel, but he did anyway, and I felt it. I swallowed the lump in my throat, forcing it down even though it hurt while I dished out food to every single one of them. My fingers brushed slightly against Ronan's hand while I was serving him, and it felt like bolts of electricity shooting through me. That was when I heard his growl… deep, low and haunting, like he wanted to steal my soul. I shuddered and backed away, folding my hands in front of me. “Aren't you going to sit?” Dante asked, already gobbling down his own portion of food. Sit here with them? The pressure would crush me before I got the first bite of food down my throat. “I'm.. I.. I already ate.” I almost whispered. “I should leave you guys to it.” I chuckled nervously and turned on my heel, running towards my room like my life depended on it. Their eyes followed me, and I only felt better after I shut my door behind me and collapsed into the bed. “What the hell is wrong with me? Why are these men driving me insane?” I mumbled into my pillow, groaning heavily before turning on my back and facing the ceiling. This bond.. it shouldn't exist. I already lost my mate to my sister, so I shouldn't have another mate let alone three. Gosh! I had to find a way to get rid of this bond, I couldn't possibly be stuck with these three. My plan was to save enough to leave their house and get a place of my own, I never wanted any of these. “I need a break.” I slapped a palm onto my forehead, as if that would make me stop overthinking. “Maybe I should go see Julie.” “s**t, I don't have her number.. or a phone.” I groaned in defeat. I had to get a phone somehow, maybe my first paycheck would cover it, and I could finally get some time away from this intoxication.. Jeez! I heard footsteps outside my door and froze, waiting for whoever it was to knock, but it never came, and then.. I heard Dante's voice. “Nyra? Are you okay?” The way he called my name made me melt. “Yeah, I'm good.” “Just checking.” He said in a defiant tone right before his footsteps faded. Dante was the only triplet who made me believe that the others still had souls. However, deep down, I knew they were all equally cruel. It was hard to contain my thoughts that night. And it only got worse when I heard them talking in the room opposite mine. I tried to eavesdrop, but it was as if they were blocking me out, so I just gave up and shut my eyes. Slowly, I drifted off to sleep with my hands pressed against my chest. **** I woke up with a loud gasp and violent palpitations. The room suddenly felt like it was spinning, and something felt off. At first, it scared me to death, but the tingling sensation of pain mixed with excitement that rippled through me seemed familiar. I threw the covering off my body, my eyes already widened in horror. When I saw the soaked portion underneath me, it confirmed my suspicions and caused me to almost stumble out of bed. “s**t!” I muttered. The bed was soaked from my wetness. I had a freaking wet dream. It wasn't normal, only during special seasons. I didn't want to think of the possibility especially with my current situation. “No, no, no..” I shook my head, staring at the soaked bed. Then, I felt it again, a pull in my lower abdomen that seemed like my insides were about to be ripped out. There was no denying it now.. I was in heat.
