VIWE ENTERED WHAT USED to be a huge church, in one of the transepts, or side branches of the cross formed in a traditional Catholic church layout. This side held a long layout of tables, which had a huge cast-iron stove supporting two immense low kettles on it, steaming. The tables went off in a straight line down its center, almost to where it met the nave. Behind the stove and long tables were rolling racks of various breads. Two people were putting some of these trays out on the tables as we entered. They looked up at us when we entered. Andy introduced me, "Sam, Dolly, this is Michelle.
