It was five minutes before 7 and Gloria heard the sound of a car entering her driveway.
She was sitting in front of her mirror wearing a champagne color sleeveless gown.
She has tied her hair in a neat bun and has worn a simple earring with light makeup to complete her look.
She looked at her son and get up to talk with him.
She didn’t want to go, but she also knew if she disagreed then her grandmom would have pestered her until she gave up.
“Daniel, Mom will leave for the party. Is it Ok if you stay with your great-grandpa?” She asked nervously.
She has never left Daniel alone as they were the only ones back then in Australia.
Though she knew her grandparents will take care of him she didn’t want to offend her son.
“Don’t worry, mom. I am OK. You go and have fun.” He said, looking up from his tablet and again returning to watching his cartoon.
“You shouldn’t look at the screen for so long. Play downstairs.” Gloria said and Daniel shut the device and get off the bed.
She didn’t know how can her son could be so obedient.
She could never give her a complete family, yet he has been always a calm and obedient son.
“Mom, can I watch it again before sleeping? I haven’t finished the movie yet.” Daniel asked before leaving the room.
She walked toward her son and ruffle his hair.
“Yes, but sleep on time. You can watch it after dinner.” She said, and Daniel smiled happily.
“Ok, mom. You should go now. I am going to see what beautiful has made for dinner.” Daniel said and run outside.
“Careful.” Gloria walked behind him hurriedly, taking her clutch.
She was afraid he would fall from the stairs and hurt himself.
But when she came down, she heard him giggle.
“Uncle John. Up Up.” Jonathan was throwing him up and Daniel was laughing excitedly.
Jonathan was throwing him up and catching him again making Daniel cry out in joy.
They have a special bond and Gloria knew her son consider Jonathan part of his family too.
Jonathan caught him and put him down on the sofa carefully.
He pulled out some chocolates and hand him.
“Wow, so many,” Daniel exclaimed and look at her with fear.
“You can have one after dinner,” Gloria said and Daniel jump up.
“Thanks, mom.” He said and Gloria smiled.
“We should leave now. The party is in the outskirts.” Jonathon reminded Gloria, and she nod.
“Zara, please take care of him. Don’t let grandma tire herself.” Gloria ordered the Nanny and she nod.
She pecked Daniel on the forehead and walk out with Jonathan.
It took them around an hour to reach the place where the party was arranged.
Jonathan got out of his car and open the door for Gloria.
Before she could get down Jonathan forwarded his hand and Gloria took it hesitantly.
She was nervous after coming here as she was making a public appearance after so long.
She has rarely attended these types of parties as David didn’t like to go unless it was necessary.
But almost everyone in the town knew her as Mrs. Collin, as their marriage was a topic of talk in the business circle.
But today she was attending here as a divorced woman and she didn’t want to see those judgmental eyes.
“Don’t worry everything will be fine.” Jonathan placed his hand on her back but Gloria moved away hesitantly and Jonathan removed his hand with disappointment.
But he didn’t show it to his face.
He forwarded his arm and Gloria hold him. Though they were looking intimate, there was a distance between them.
They made their entry and at the door, Mr. Brent was waiting to greet them.
“Hello Mr. Writes and Mrs…” He hesitate as he didn’t know what to call him.
They have always known her as Mrs. Collin, but she was here with someone else.
Their news of Divorce was the topic of gossip five years back but David never opened his mouth, and neither White group made any announcement.
So it was unsure what happened between them.
“Hello, Mr. Brent. This is Miss white if you may not know.” Jonathan try to cover up the awkwardness and Mr. Brent joined with a smile.
Jonathan wanted to make sure no one can bully Gloria because of her past.
She has suffered a lot and he wanted to be beside her as her friend if not someone special.
“How could I not know the heiress of the White group? Welcome to our party, Miss White.” Mr. Brent greeted her properly, and she smiled back.
“I heard your new product launch was a great success. Congratulation.” Gloria said in return.
She has done her research before coming here.
Though her life was a mess and she was fighting with her emotional problems, she didn’t want to show outsiders she was easy prey.
If she want to step inside the business of New York, she must make sure she was not a pushover.
“Thanks, a lot Miss white. Actually, it was Mr. Writes who helped me a lot with this project. Otherwise, I won’t be able to get these achievements.” Mr. Brent replied politely and Gloria looked at Jonathan.
“Don’t flatter me. Actually, it was a small favor from one friend to another.” Jonathan dismissed the topic.
Gloria knows how Jonathan has worked hard to make the Writes group flourish.
She doesn’t doubt his capabilities and she knew how she has helped many people too because back when David wanted to make his company work Jonathan helped him too.
“So how we didn’t see you for so long Miss white?” Brent tried to pry politely.
What happened that year was not clear and if he can find out this news can be beneficial.
“I was busy with my personal matters. But now I am back in New York and maybe start my new business here.” Gloria broke the news and gestured for Jonathan to walk inside.
Brent made their way and they walk inside, making everyone turn in their direction.
