1781 Words
“Your tea and whiskey.” Sebastian placed the tea and whiskey on the counter. “Why would I be even scared of you?” Adriana replied to the question that Dante asked. She was perplexed about what might have been the reason for the question. Dante took the whiskey and drank it. “After you learned that Theo was their target, are you not scared?” “Mr. Vescari, I think your question is wrong. I was scared for the safety of Theo and me. I am not scared of you.” Adriana was firm in her answer; she might have gotten nervous about how Mr Vescari looked at him, but she knew what to say. “You even got hurt because of what happened.” “I am fine, Mr. Vescari; I will do this again not only for Theo but for any of my students.” Dante continued to drink his whiskey; he felt worried, like Theo, he might be starting to be amazed by this woman. “Now I understand why Theo likes you so much.” Adriana was surprised by how Dante talked to him. She was nervous, but she needed to speak up now or forever hold his peace. “Ms. Vescari, if I could tell you something.” “Fire away, Ms. Hartley.” Adriana mustered all the courage she had and swallowed hard. “Please do not ask me to marry you.” Dante’s eyes widened as Adriana said those words. Sebastian, on the other hand, almost dropped the glass we have wiping. “I know this sounds weird, but Theo told me before all of this happened that you planned to talk to me about his request.” Dante laughed at what he heard; Adriana was surprised by his reaction. “I am sorry for laughing; I didn’t mean anything wrong. I am just surprised that you really go straight to the point.” “I apologize for being so direct; it is just that…” Adriana was fiddling with her finger out of nervousness. “I know for a fact that Theo can be persuasive; he obviously gets what he wants. But as for his request, I cannot be that person.” Dante sat loosely and stared at Adriana. “Can I ask why you cannot be his mother?” “It is because I am his teacher; that is the only role I will ever be.” “Why are you limiting yourself to that? When I can do something to make you his mother?” Adrian cannot hide her nervousness; Dante notices this. “I am not forcing you to anything. Yes, it is true, I do have plans to talk to you about Theo’s request. I plan to make an offer, but not what you think. But you have already rejected me firsthand.” “I do not have any plans to offend you, sir; I am just.” Dante then pulled Adriana’s chair close to him. Their proximity was so close. “I do not like rejections, Ms. Hartley. That is why I will treat what you said earlier as a little hiccup.” “Mr. Vescari, please do not put me on the spot.” Dante smiled as Adriana blushed and could not hide her feelings. She is very transparent. Dante moved away from Adriana. “Good night, Ms. Hartley. See you for breakfast later.” Dante left the kitchen; Adriana was left surprised, and her face was really red from blushing. She proceeded to place his head down on the counter; she could feel her hot face. “The tea is now cold, Ms. Hartley. Should I brew you a new one?” Sebastian asked Adriana; he knew that the young lady was in shock. “Thank you, Mr. Graves. I will just drink the cold one and go to sleep.” Adriana took the tea, but she could not sleep at all. How can she do that? What happened in the kitchen kept replaying in her mind. What is going to happen to her? Her situation right now is more difficult than her divorce. Who in their right mind would vex Mr. Dante Vescari? Morning came at the Vescari Manor; Theo woke up early, which surprised everyone. “Where is Ms. Adriana's room?” The little boy asked the maids who were cleaning. “Her room is at the end of the hallway, little master.” “Thank you!” Theo ran away as he heard where Adriana was. He reached the room and knocked. “Ms. Adriana, are you awake?” “Yes! I am!” Adriana replied and opened the door. Theo entered and hugged Adriana. “You are still here.” “Yes, I could not leave without saying goodbye.” Theo smiled, let go of Adriana, and held her hands. “Come on, let’s eat breakfast.” “Okay, slow down, Theo.” Adriana had slept lightly; at this moment, she was nervous to see Mr. Dante Vescari at the moment. She really wanted to leave this place. “Good Morning!” Sebastian greeted Theo and Adriana as they entered the dining hall. “Sit here, Ms. Adriana.” Theo pulled a chair beside him so that Adriana could sit beside her. “Our chef really knows how to cook good food, Ms. Adriana” Theo said proudly, as he was so happy to have Ms. Adrian at their house. “Coffee or Tea, miss?” “Coffee, please!” Adriana was awkward observe her surroundings as they were being served. “Do not worry, miss; it is alright.” Sebastian whispered as he poured Adriana some coffee. “Thank you!” Adriana felt a sense of ease with what Sebastian said. “Daddy!” Theo greeted his father happily, who was entering the dining hall as well. Adriana was not looking toward Mr. Vescari, as what happened last night was still replaying in her mind. “Good Morning, Ms. Hartley.” “Good Morning, Mr. Vescari!” Adriana greeted him, and she could feel her face blushing. She wanted to disappear at that moment, if only. Dante was staring at Adriana, who was blushing; he found her very amusing. He was enjoying it. “Did you have a good sleep, Theo?” “Yes, Daddy!” Theo replied to his father as he continued to eat happily. “How about you, Ms. Hartley?” “I… am fine, sir. I slept.” Adriana nervously replied. Dante, on the other hand, was enjoying the situation. He found it amusing to see Adriana’s reaction. He liked it so much. “Are you going home after this, Ms. Adriana?” “Yes! I need to go home, Theo.” Theo pouted while looking at his daddy. Like waiting for something. “Theo, let Ms. Hartley go home; you can see her on Monday at school.” “But, Daddy, she is already here. Have you talked to her?” “Theo, please, your daddy is a busy man, and he is right. We can see each other on Monday.” “But! You're here; you can stay here forever.” “Theo!” Adriana was struggling to pacify Theo; as much as she wanted to indulge the little boy, she could not. “Theo, stop!” Dante called out to Theo. “Stop making things difficult for Ms. Hartley; she has a lot ‌to think about.” “Mr. Vescari, my answer is…” “Tentative, and hope you reconsider. After all, I like you to be Theo’s mother.” Adriana’s eyes widened as Dante said those words. Everyone in the room didn’t react, but was also are surprise with what they had heard. “Please, Ms. Adriana! Please be my mommy.” Adriana was really put on the spot. Mr. Dante Vescari and Theo Vescari are indeed two men who will go to anything to get what they want. Adriana now knows that sooner or later she needs to make a decision. The breakfast ended; Vincent was tasked with bringing Adriana home. “I will see you on Monday, Theo!” “Okay! Ms. Adriana.” Adriana looked at Dante. “Thank you very much, Mr. Vescari, for everything.” “I should be the one saying that. Thank you for saving Theo.” “You’re welcome, sir; you are not in debt.” Dante moved closer to Adriana and stared at her. “Please think about my proposal. I ‌really want Theo to be happy. I would be happy as well.” Adriana blushed and nodded. “I will think about it, but my decision is final.” “We will see about that.” Adriana waved goodbye to the Vescari Manor. Her heart was pounding as they drove away from that place. “Ms, Vescari and Theo are indeed cheerful.” “Hmm! Really?” Vincent adjusted the rear-view mirror to stare at Adriana. “I do not want to pry, but Ms. Hartley, do you hate Mr. Vescari?” “No! It is not like that.” Adriana hesitated for a minute, and she looked at Vincent. “I am not good with relationships; the last one I had, I failed to keep.” “You are too harsh on yourself; lightning does not strike the same spot, you know.” “If I agree, what do I even get from this?” “Probably everything! Security, protection, wealth, and all.” “I am not interested in those.” “A family! A family you can call your own.” Those words hit Adriana like a splash of cold water. In her previous marriage, she ‌married Daniel because of love and the promise to have a family; to be able to bear children, enjoy family vacations, and do a lot of family-related things. But Daniel’s infidelity crushed all of those. But wanting those things is enough good reason to accept the offer of Mr. Vescari? They are not playing dollhouse once they get married; they will be a married couple. That scared Adriana. What if it will not work again this time? What if she ends up getting hurt again? What if she gets hurt, Theo? The stakes are much higher now. “Please think about it, Ms. Hartley. I think Mr. Vescari will respect your decision no matter what.” “Thank you, Mr. Bellire.” The agony of thinking it can go well and, at the same time,e it will not is torture. Adriana never wanted to be in a position like this. All she wanted was to live a simple life.
