“The Alpha Heir Chose Me… and I Said No”.

1230 Words
What do I even say about myself? I hate the idea of introducing myself in a place like this. I didn’t even know how to start or what to say at all. “Pretty and dumb?” I heard someone mutter and a few in the front row giggled in response. My chest tightened and I almost turned and sprinted out of the class, but now isn’t the time I look weak. “My name is Mara Gailes, my parents are business men and we moved to this city for a smoother life. It is my pleasure to be enrolled in this prestigious academy and I do hope that everyone here is willing to welcome me as part of this institution..” My voice echoed as an unknowing smile crept on my face. The giggling had stopped and their eyes lingered on me but with what looked like admiration this time. “You’re welcome, Miss Gailes..” The professor announced but I’d rather eat broken glass than be known by that name. “Please, call me Mara. Gailes belongs to my father..” I corrected and he nodded, confusion obviously etched on his face. “Welcome aboard, Miss Mara..” He repeated and I smiled as I walked myself to an empty seat at the far end of the class. Miss Langford left shortly after speaking with the professor and then the class resumed. I wasn’t paying any attention… I needed to get to the school’s library where I could see things that I’ve not had the privilege of seeing for the entire twenty-two years of my life. “Hey..” I heard someone whisper beside me and I lifted my eyes from the notebook I was scribbling on. “Hi..” I whispered back, then turned my attention back to my doodles. The last thing I wanted was a friend here. “I’m Joan, I love your style..” she muttered, smiling weirdly at me. “It’s literally just a uniform, Joan. Everyone is wearing the same thing..” I retorted sternly. She batted her eyes and shrugged her shoulders. “Same thing.” A few more classes later and I was finally done for the day. I headed back to my dorm and bumped into Joan again, her beady eyes stared at me excitedly. “Are you following me?” I snapped. “Your room is literally opposite mine..” she sneered and I glanced at the door facing mine. Her name was boldly written on it and I felt a headache immediately. “So, what do you do for fun? Trust me this school can be really boring so you have to make the most of it while you can..” Her voice rang and I pinched the space between my brows. “Thank you Joan, but I’d rather stay bored…” “Ughh.. that’s too basic. Anyway, I have a few options for you but since it’s your first day… I’ll just allow you to settle in properly before I let you in on all there is to know about this place..” Joan said and I forced a smile as I went into my room and shut the door. I let out a heavy sigh and sank into the bed, staring into empty space. “It’s not so bad after all..” I muttered and took out my phone. Aside from Tania's response to the text I left her, my phone was quiet. Not even a simple check in from my parents to know if I made it to the academy. I honestly wasn’t expecting anything from them… But if only my mother would at least try to make sure her daughter was still alive. “Whatever..” I hissed as I tossed my phone aside and peeled the clothes off of my body. I walked over to the wardrobe, changed into a simple sundress, picked just my phone and a journal and headed out of my room. I had nowhere in particular to go, but I just needed to clear my head so I thought a stroll around the school would help. As I walked past a mirror… I noticed my wolf birthmark peeking out through the space in my sleeve and I immediately rushed back into my room to pick a cardigan. There’s no way I’m letting anyone suspect me of being a wolf because in this academy… I’m a whole different person… a human. Walking through the fields, I spotted a clearing with nobody else there. I quickly rushed over and sat on the bench, sketching whatever came to my mind inside the journal. I felt someone watching me but I chose not to lift my eyes. That’ll only attract a conversation and I wasn’t in any mood for that. Unfortunately… My ignorance didn’t prevent the gawking weirdo because I heard heavy steps approaching the bench. “Hey beautiful..” His hoarse voice almost made me jump out of my skin. My eyes slowly looked up to see the face behind such a commanding voice. “I’m guessing you’re new here?” He asked, smiling weirdly at me. “I’m Jackson, can I sit?” I glanced at him and then scooted over, not because I wanted to indulge him… But because I didn’t know what he’d do if I said no to him. He sat and exhaled softly like an old man. Something about his scent made my eyes twitch in excitement. I pushed that feeling away and continued sketching, completely ignoring his presence. “Wow… beautiful eyes and a beautiful talent. What’s your name?” Jackson urged, irritation slowly growing in my throat at how close he was to me. “Mara.” I replied dryly, hoping he’d just take the hint and leave me alone. “Mara..” he repeated softly as he leaned back on the chair. The sun was setting slowly and my phone buzzed beside me and the screen lit up. I glanced at it, but it was just a notification from a random app on my phone. “There’s a dance coming up in a few weeks time, would you like to go with me?” Jackson asked as the orange hues colored the sky like he was anticipating this moment before now. I glanced at his face, the reflection of the sunset made his golden eyes illuminate even more. His chestnut hair fell loosely on his shoulders, every part of his face was chiseled. The way his lips curved into a smile, the perfect rhythm of every feature on his face, his scent, his voice… Everything was perfect. We would definitely make the perfect power couple. Just us two good-looking people walking into the party, dressed in the finest clothes and looking like we just stepped out of a fashion magazine. “That’s so kind of you to ask me to the dance..” I started softly, holding his hand in mine to emphasize what I was about to say. “So you’ll go with me?” He cut me short, “I’ll make arrangements for a dress. I have my ways..” His face lit up and I almost didn’t complete my sentence. “Don’t rush, Jackson. I haven’t even finished what I was going to say..” I interrupted his happiness and he nodded. “I can’t go with you, Jackson..”
