Voices drifted in first, then light.
I slowly opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was a bland ceiling.
I rolled over on the bed and sat up on my own, completely oblivious of where I was.
I could hear people speaking in low voices…
But there was nobody in sight and the more I tried to remember fragments of what happened before I landed here…
The more it felt like the memories were running away from me.
“Hello..”
I called out and a lady in white walked out of the inner room.
Her face was stern and unfriendly. How did I even get here?
“Good… you’re awake.
Means you’re fine, now you can go.
Just take enough water and you’ll be fine..” she ordered.
“Wait… that’s all?” I asked and she glared at me in disgust.
“Are you going to teach me…
My job now?”
She snapped and I shook my head.
“No..
I’ll see myself out.”
I responded and immediately picked up my shoe, put it on and dragged myself out of the clinic.
“Mara!” Joan shrieked as she ran towards me, pulling me into a warm hug.
“What happened to you?
You just started wincing in pain and next thing your body temperature just kept going up..”
She explained and that’s when I finally remembered.
This has never happened to me before and I was afraid it was something I was suspecting it to be long before now.
I smacked my lips and ran my fingers through my hair because now I’d have to call my mother to ask her about this and I don’t want to speak with her.
“Let me ask you Joan, how did I even get to the clinic?” I asked and her face turned a bright red instantly.
“Ouu that’s the juicy part.
So while everyone was panicking and wondering what was wrong with you…
Jaden swooped in and grabbed you in his arms like a knight in shining armor!”
She said gleefully.
“Who’s Jaden?”
I asked but the words were still hanging mid air when I heard heavy boots hitting against the floorboards.
I turned around and an unfamiliar yet strikingly handsome face stepped into sight.
“I better leave you two..” Joan teased and scurried away even before I could say anything.
“Hey..”
“Hello. You must be Jaden.”
I said and he shrugged his shoulders, pulling his hair away from his face.
“Thank you so much for helping me earlier, I really appreciate it..”
I muttered.
“It’s nothing, I saw an angel in need and I had to do something to help.
What did the nurse say was the issue?”
He asked and I glanced at the clinic door.
“What nurse?
This one?
She didn’t say anything about my health to me..”
I said and he laughed.
