The Secret Revealed

Nadoria           I smiled as I removed the gift tissue paper. “You don’t have to get me anything. If anything, I should be getting you something for saving my life.”, I said as I reached into the bag and pulled out a set of clothes. It was a beautiful soft pink colored sundress with a pair of matching flip flops. I stared down at the clothes with a smile. “The clothes you wore when I brought you into the ER were ruined so I figured I would get you some clothes to wear upon discharge. I think I got the right size.”, he said. I smiled again and looked over at him, staring into his beautiful violet eyes. “This is...perfect. Thank you so much.”, I said wiping away a single tear. Damien gently took my hand and rubbed the top of it with his thumb. “You’re welcome.”, he said softly, staring into my soul. I felt a gentle warmth in the pit of my stomach as he stared longingly at me. The moment was short lived as Dr. Wells and my aunt entered my room. I cleared my throat and put my clothes next to me. “You’re cleared to go home. All we need is your signature.”, Dr. Wells said. I nodded and quickly signed the papers, thanking her again for all of her help.           I quickly cleaned myself up, running some water through my hair as I put it up in a ponytail. I then got out of my hospital gown and changed into the new clothes Damien got me. The dress fit me well, falling down to the top of my knees. The fabric was so soft it didn’t feel like I was wearing clothes. I slipped on the flip flops and gently wiped my face. I took one last look at myself before leaving the bathroom. Everyone looked over at me. Damien’s eyes travelled up and down my body with this devilish look in his eyes. “Are you in any pain?”, Dr. Wells asked. I nodded slightly. “It’s not as bad as before but it's there.”, I said. It didn’t help that I refused help getting dressed. Lifting my arms was especially painful. "I told you I could've helped you, mija.", my aunt said. I know she could've but I wanted to see if I could do it myself first. I looked down at the ground, feeling helpless. I have two more months of this. This is going to be torture. I suddenly felt a large, warm hand rest on my shoulder. I looked up and saw Damien looking at me. "Don't be hard on yourself. Learning how to lean on your family can be difficult when you're used to being independent. But, you need to learn if you're going to get better.", he said. I nodded and sighed aloud. "Los sieñto, tia.", I said. She nodded and smiled over at Damien, giving him an 'I-see-you' look. "Alright, let's get you home.", he said.           When we got back to my house, my room was rearranged to accommodate my recovery time. "How did you guys manage this?", I asked, sitting up in bed. My aunt pointed at Damien with a smile. "He spent an entire afternoon rearranging your room and he did it all by himself.", she said. I frowned at Damien. Some of my furniture was very heavy. Just how strong is this guy. "It was nothing.", he said nonchalantly. My aunt soon left to cook dinner, telling Damien that he was staying for dinner. He smiled, grabbed a chair, and sat next to my bed. "I don't know why you've done all of this for me but I appreciate it.", I said. Damien tilted his head, like a curious puppy. It was so adorable. "Don't tell me you still don't know. ", he said with a 'duh' expression on his face. I shook my head slowly, trying to come up with a reason in the meantime. He scoffed and looked intensely at me. "Because I like you, smartness.", he said as he gently stole a kiss on my cheek. I felt my cheek blush red at his warmth and my eyes widened in shock. I looked over at his smiling face and was about to say something when my aunt showed up. "Bon appetit!", she exclaimed as she handed us each a plate. We all ate in my room, talking with light hearts.           Damien would come and see as often as he could. One would even say that he has become a part of our little famillia. My aunt would always be happy to see him and so would I. "Today is a very special day. Two weeks before señorita's graduation and two weeks before your recovery is complete. I just wanted to say that I'm very proud of you and I can't wait to see you walk across the stage.", Damien said, raising his glass. "To Nadoria.", he said with a smile. My aunt, Damien, and I sipped our margaritas. I smiled and thanked them, feeling majorly embarrassed. "You guys didn't have to do this.", I said standing amongst balloons, glitter, and gifts. My aunt then sat me down and handed me gift after gift with a bright smile. Damien sat next to me enjoying my reactions and grinning at me, making my stomach flip and flop inside of me. I got everything under the sun. Damien got me a new laptop, my aunt got me a make-up set, and I got new clothes from Damien’s mother who was working that night. After I had opened the rest of the gifts, I couldn't stop smiling. "I don't graduate for another two weeks, so why are we having a graduation party now?", I asked. My aunt looked over at Damien, who nervously sipped his drink. "Time is now, mijo. She needs to know and it's not my place to say.", she said as she leaned down and kissed my forehead. "Te amo, mija.", she said as she walked away leaving me very confused. I frowned and looked at Damien. "Damien, what's going on?", I asked. He looked over at me and gently held my hand. "I have something to tell you about me and about my family.", he started, looking at me with soft eyes. I nodded slowly, not sure as to what he was going to say next. "We're werewolves.", he said.
