The Janitor’s Closet

1039 Words
I was walking to the girl’s bathroom when I heard a familiar laugh. I peeked into the bathroom to find Angelica and two of her friends, shooting up. Just as I was about to close the bathroom door, Angelica spotted me. “Aye, it’s nappy head.”, she said with bloodshot eyes. I bit my lip and looked back at her. I really didn’t like that nickname. “C’mon in.”, she said, “We won’t bother you...this time.” She chuckled to her friends, letting me know that she was lying. “No, I’m good.”, I said as I quickly left. She yelled after and came running out of the bathroom. I felt her arms wrap around my neck tightly, squeezing endlessly. I choked and coughed, fighting for air. “What’s that? I didn’t hear you? Speak up!”, she said as she slapped my face. I felt hot tears pour from my eys as my eyes felt like they were bulging from my skull. “You think you’re better than me, huh? You ain’t nothing, puta.”, she said in my ear as she dropped me to the ground, letting go of my neck. I gasped and gagged trying to take in as much air I possibly could. “Look at you! Pathetic, as always! No wonder your parents died. They were probably trying to get away from you!”, she yelled as she grabbed me up by my hair. I screamed out as I was drugged back in a janitor’s closet. Angelica’s friends closed in on me, locking my arms behind me. Angelica shed her jacket like a snake, revealing her two full sleeve tattoos. She cracked her knuckles and put her fist up. “Please…”, I gasped. All she did was smile as she jabbed me hard and fast in my ribs. The pain was so intense I couldn’t scream or breath. I just endured my punishment until Angelica was tired. She yelled out in victory as my body became limp from her beating. She lifted my head up to face her, looking deeply into my eyes. “You’re nothing, chica and you’ll never be nothing. Just the stupid chick with the big hair.”, she said. I felt my body fall to the floor as Angelica’s friend let me go. I blinked a few times, trying to breath as the three of them left. Then nothing but darkness shrouded me in that dirty janitor’s closet. Damien I knew deep down in my gut that something really bad had happened to her. I felt like my stomach was on fire and my ribs ached. “What is this?”, I thought as I continued to walk the halls of one of the lecture buildings. As I rounded the corner, I could hear laughter coming from three people, who I suspected weren’t students. “I taught that big haired puta a lesson she’ll never forget.”, I heard one of them say as they exited the building. My heart dropped to my stomach. “Nadoria!”, I yelled out as I ran around the corner. Her scent was strong mixed with the smell of iron and I could hear her heartbeat. It was faint but it was there. I continued to follow her scent until I came to a janitor’s closet. I slowly opened the closet and found her battered body, lifeless on the floor. “Oh God, no! Nadoria! NADORIA!”, I screamed. She didn’t answer. I carefully picked her up and carried her to my car. I instantly called my mother, Dr. Elaine Wells, who worked at the nearest hospital. I explained what was going on and she told me that she’d be ready when I got there. I hung up and looked over at Nadoria. She looked so pale and blood was seeping out of her mouth. “Hang on, okay? Hang on, baby.”, I said as I dropped my car into fourth gear. I made it to the hospital in record time, carrying Nadoria’s lifeless body into the emergency room. My mother was there and quickly received her. “Wait in the waiting room over there.”, she pointed to a small, empty, secluded waiting room off from the operating room. I nodded and sat down, lacing my fingers together. “Please, please let her be okay.”, I prayed to the Moon Goddess. Hours passed and I was a nervous wreck as I waited to hear something from my mother. Minutes after I had contacted Nadoria’s aunt she came running into the waiting room. “Damien?”, she asked with a very strong spanish accent. I nodded and wrapped her up in a comforting hug. “Hello, Ms. Rodriguez. I’m very honored to meet you. I just wish it was during better circumstances.”, I said with sadness in my voice. She nodded and thanked me for helping Nadoria. I offered her some tea and we sat and talked while we waited. “She’s very cautious, goofy, and clumsy.”, her aunt said with a smile on her face. “Yeah, her parents died in a car accident when she was eight. I still remember the sound of her little voice screaming out for them. She was so heartbroken and truly was never the same after that. Her parent’s, my sister and brother-in-law, were the most beautiful couple. Everyone knew that they’d be together forever. You could see it in their eyes.”, she said as she handed me a picture of her sister, a baby Nadoria, and Nadoria’s father. They looked so happy and Nadoria was the spitting image of her mother. “They do look very happy. Perfect soulmates, if I dare say.”, I said with a smile. Nadoria’s aunt nodded as tears streamed from her eyes. “I don’t know what I’ll do if I lose her, too. She’s all I have left of my sister and my dear brother-in-law.”, she said as she covered her eyes with her hands. I carefully wrapped her up in a gentle side hug, letting her know that it would all be okay when I myself wasn’t even truly sure. All of a sudden, I saw my mother come out of the operating room. I gently nudged Nadoria’s aunt, taking her by the hand. “Ms. Rodriguez, this is my mother, Dr. Elaine Wells. She received Nadoria when she came in.”, I said. Nadoria’s aunt shook her hand and instantly asked about Nadoria.
