Introductions

I felt my heartbeat quicken its pace as I slowly turned around, trying to focus on the white board in front of me. The feeling got more and more intense as if its source was getting closer and closer to me. I sucked in a breath through my teeth and exhaled slowly. “Calm down. What is wrong with you?”, I screamed at myself as I pretended like everything was okay. I took out a pad and pen as I started filling out a worksheet. I felt goosebumps rise all over my body as the beautiful stranger sat down right next to me. I peeked over at him, only to find him full-on staring at me. I gave a fleeting closed mouth smile and looked back at my laptop. “Cool, laptop.”, I heard him say with a voice smoother than silk. I looked over at him, then back at my laptop. “Oh, thank you.”, I said with a nervous smile. “Surface?”, he asked. “Yeah, Surface pro 7, a laptop after my own heart.”, I said as casually as I could muster. He chuckled deeply, showing off his pearly whites. I couldn’t help but noticed that his canines were very defined. “And why is that?”, he asked. I went on to explain the specs of my laptop, the processor speed, RAM, etc. “It has everything I need for what I need it for.”, I said proudly. I looked over and found him grinning at me. “Too much?”, I asked. He shook his head. “Not at all.”, he said before extending a hand out to me. “I’m Damien Wells.”, he said. I quickly put my pen down and took his hand, “Nadoria Iglesias.” We sat in contemplative silence as the lecture began. I noticed that he listened attentively to the professor but had no pen or paper out to take notes. He didn’t even have a bookbag. I also noticed that he was dressed very well to be in such a casual setting. He was wearing a well-fitted navy blue suit, with a white undershirt, and a soft pink tie. He also wore some very expensive-looking coffee-colored loafers. He wore a Rolex and diamond cufflinks. “See something you like.”, I heard him say. I looked up at him and he was smirking devilishly at me. I shook my head fervently and was about to explain when the professor started to make an announcement. “And now, ladies and gentlemen, if you could join in welcoming the President’s son and Vice President of LCC, mister Damien Wells.” My mouth dropped to the floor. Damien winked at me before he got up, buttoning his suit jacket, and waving at everyone as he ascended the stairs to the lecture hall’s stage. He looked over at me once again and smiled before he started to speak. He seemed so cool, confident, and collected on stage. He spoke very clearly, motioning with his hands, and expressed enthusiasm as he spoke. He was easy to follow but didn’t sound like he was dumbing down the information. He was educated and refined, and clearly way out of my league. He paused for a moment and looked over at me again. I looked around me to see if he could be looking at someone else besides me. I was the only one sitting in the front row and to the right of the lecture hall. There was no mistaking it. He was looking at me. “ Wait for perfection, hone your skills, and one day what you’ve wanted all along will be right in front of you.”, he said as he stared intensely at me, causing me to swallow a lump in my throat. He thanked his audience who addressed him with a round of applause. Most of the applause came from the girls in the class, swooning and drooling at him. He slowly descended the stairs as class was dismissed. I quickly gathered my things and stood to leave when Damien stood, tall and strong at the end of the row. I sat in the last seat of the row up against the wall so the only way to get out of the class was through Damien. I walked awkwardly up to him. “That was a great speech, Mr. Wells.”, I compliment as I motioned to get by. Damien shook his head. “It’s Damien, okay? Mr. Wells is my father.”, he said sternly. I shrunk back a little at his commanding tone, submitting almost instantly. “Damien. I’m sorry. I didn’t know who you were. I would’ve addressed you more properly if I had known.”, I said, blaming myself. Once again he shook his head. “I didn’t tell you who I was for good reason. It would’ve caused too much attention. Besides, I enjoyed your company.”, he said in his deep voice. I nodded, looking down at the ground. “Well, it was nice meeting you, Damien.”, I said with a kind smile, extending my hand out to him. He grinned and gently took my hand. “The pleasure is all mine, Ms. Iglesias.”, he said as he gently kissed the back of my hand. I blushed red as I cleared my throat and attempted to move past him. As I did, he watched me carefully as if I was going to dissipate into thin air. I didn’t notice how small I was compared to him. He was a very big man, almost swallowing my frame whole with his shadow. I had made it halfway across the lobby when I heard him call my name. I turned around and he was already standing about a foot away from me. I felt my heart jump up into my throat. Why does he have to be so close? “Forgive me, Ms. Iglesias. I meant to ask you something if you’re not in a hurry.”, he said as he tucked on hand into his pants pockets and rested his other hand on his abdomen. I took a moment to think before saying anything, knowing very well I didn’t have a thing planned. “No, I think I’m free for the rest of the day, so no rush. What’s up?”, I asked, trying to avoid looking up into his eyes. His eyes seemed to sparkle at my response. “Well then, would it be too much trouble if I asked for your phone number?”, he asked with a faint grin on his lips.
