Chapter TwoGlen threw the footwear outside the front door then came back and sat down. Out of the corner of her eye, Lilly watched him pull his toes apart and look at an area rubbed raw by the strap of his new rubber beach sandals. She was surprised at having convinced him they were better to wear in the sand than were expensive loafers, and they got him out of always wearing socks. She fumbled through a kitchen drawer and came up with a small Band-Aid and offered it to him. “Whatever happened to hiking, local studies at the library and all your other interests?” he asked as he meticulously applied then reapplied the strip.
