Anticipation of having to deal with the tightening red tape strangling Cuba filled her with a sense of dread. Fewer and fewer people were being allowed to leave that island country, but what an irony. Now she would have to see that Pablo was returned. No one dared return to see family members left behind for fear of being prevented from leaving again, or thrown in jail for having left the first time. Someone actually returning to Cuba would be a first. Pablo's mother had left Cuba with her lover. Ciara found some solace in the thought that Pablo could be sent the United States instead.
