Chapter 7The only reason Gideon slept at all was because he knew Jesse would come home. He didn’t know when or in what kind of mood, but he knew there was no way Jesse would stay away. They had fought too hard to find each other again; neither would concede defeat—or could even fathom it—after one bad blowout. But Gideon also knew things were going to be different. He had the bruises on his body to prove it. When he woke up, the sun had already set, but the house was silent. The answering machine heralded two messages, the first from JT, notice that he and David had taken a hotel room for the night to gain a few hours of privacy. He didn’t elaborate as to why. He didn’t need to. Gideon was simply grateful there wouldn’t be any witnesses to whatever confrontation Jesse might deem necessar
