XAVIER
"Boss are you sure you want to go in there'?" Lucas, my driver, asked, and I stared at the mansion briefly.
"I'm fine Lucas. Perhaps what could possibly go wrong?" I gave him a nod before opening the car door, and I stepped down, walking into the Hawk ancestral family house.
I don't really recall the last time I was here, because I certainly don't have good memories about this house while growing up. What am I even doing here in the first place?
Oh yeah, because old Master Hawk sent for me and also for Damon, but not in a good way; it's in another way. I paused at the entrance of the mansion, then I looked around me, and all I could feel was bitterness, but I know why I'm here, so I shouldn't let it get to me.
I stepped fully into the house, walking directly to the living room, and voices of people echoed in my ears.
"Are you stupid? Why would you do such a thing? Is there something wrong with your head and thinking" Sarah, my sister-in-law, shouted.
"I was only trying to tease her mother, nothing else, but the scenario decided to spread like wildfire on its own, so why should I be blamed for it" Damon sounded like he was not feeling remorseful or ashamed of what he was saying.
"You seriously need a tight slap from me , Damon; you should feel lucky that I consider you to be a man of respect, else you would have been getting it tough from me right now" Sarah said with a cold voice, making me wonder why she was so interested in this.
Sarah is my stepbrother's wife, and she isn't the first daughter-in-law, nor is she the second. She has never shown or picked up interest in anything relating to Damon; how he lives his life, what he does and doesn't, is never her business, so why the sudden scolding?
"Are you calling Damon a man of respect? that's hilarious!!" Stephanie Damon's younger sister laughed.
"Yes, Mom, consider me a man of respect, and that is what I am. That little show that played out at Mr. Wilson's party isn't all a show; it's real, Nora isn't what you all think she is" Damon must still be feeling high of himself.
"You know we are not fools , Damon; we will never believe this shitty crap coming out of your mouth, so stop trying to lure a rabbit out of their hole by throwing poison in it. It's going to kill them instead of bringing them to you. Hope you understand that, brother?" Stephanie scolded.
After listening to all what they were saying, I checked the time on my wristwatch and realized that I needed to be where I was supposed to be so I could leave as soon as possible.
I walked out of the shadow, and my eyes immediately fell on Sarah. She studied me for a while before revealing that disgusting look that she has always had for me.
"Uncle Xavier?" Stephanie called brightly. She took a step forward as if wanting to come to me, then she stopped and only smiled a bit at me.
"So tell me what brought an undignified man like you to our abode?" Sarah asked, her voice not matching her face.
"This undignified man isn't here for you, Sarah, so let's go back to the way we were before. Don't talk to me" I warned, reminding her of our forever beefing.
"Great! I know this undignified man will never be here for me, I mean, I don't move or work with people like you, so I was just curious because it's been years more than three years since this undignified and cold hearted man stepped his foot into our ancestral home, so tell me, what are you here for?" She said, her voice laced with venom and bitterness.
I don't know why she thinks of me this way. Ever since the day I stepped my foot into this house, when I was just 12 years of age, she became my biggest tormentor, punisher, and greatest enemy.
My biggest regret was coming here, to this family and home, and up until now I blamed my mother forever letting that man sleep with her in the first place.
"Mom, I will not allow you to address Uncle that way. You're not just talking to any random person but Uncle Xavier, so please watch it" Damon spoke up, questioning his mother, and that took me by surprise.
She wouldn't like this, of course she wouldn't, because I have known her for so long now, and her ambition is to secure a better spot for Damon in the Hawk family.
So when I arrived as old Master Hawk's youngest child, she became mad and angry, and she made sure she passed out all her aggressions and angers on me, and all I did then was to endure it all with a broken heart.
"Damon"
"This isn't right, Mother. I think Uncle Xavier needs an apology" Stephanie added, and all I did was to let out a bitter smile.
"There will be no need for that, Damon. I came for old Master Hawk, not for your mother, so let her have her way because she's always jobless and digging out things about everyone" I dug my hands into my pocket, and I strode past her casually.
Her eyes followed me with her hand balled tightly. She's definitely the only person in the Hawk family who still has the guts to speak so ill of me in my very presence.
I've been wondering why she hates me this much, or does she still see me as that 12-year-old boy who came to this house with nothing but the clothes he was putting on.
I shook my head, trying to chase off every bad memory. I'm over that now; those troubles with the family in the Hawk shouldn't be my problem.
I got to a large door, then I knocked on it twice, but no voice came in from inside. I knocked again instead it was silent as hell.
I wondered what was happening inside because I hate to keep standing for anybody, I was running out of patience. I have other places to be, and this person is f*****g keeping me waiting.
I raised my hand wanting to knock again, when the door was pushed open, revealing the face of the man I was asked was my father.
"Xavier, you are here. I never expected you to come after all my calls, requests, and demands" Old Master Hawk said, pushing the door wide for me to step in.
"I'm happy today, so feel glad" I said bluntly, walking into the room.
"Why am I here?" I questioned immediately, not ready for any banter that is going to take my time.
"You know your elder brother Marcus is away for now, and the rest of your siblings are not around currently, so it's just you that I rely on..." He started off and I immediately became curious, wondering what he was about to ask of me.
"Rely on me? On what?"
"Damon you nephew, so I want him and his ex fiancee to get back together because I like her a lot" I heard him said and my throat immediately went dried.
Fiancée? What fiancée is he talking about?
"And who's she?"
"The popular and successful banker Ms. Nora Brown, she will be the perfect bride for Damon" Old Master Hawk announced, and my veins immediately popped out in anger.
I fought the urge to control myself so I wouldn't lash out at him. But what the hell is even wrong with me? Why do I suddenly feel so angry and possessive?.
Damon is my nephew, so I shouldn't be feeling this way. Is it that bad if I say I want Nora for myself despite her being my nephew's ex?
I don't know, and I don't care, but Damon once messed up, and the Nora that I've gotten to know would rather die than get back with him.
She has been marked and claimed by me already, so I'm sorry, Old Master Hawk, but I can't help you on this.
