I was itching to talk to Ethan when we got to the pack house. As soon as I opened the door I said goodbye to Jane and followed his scent to his office on the first floor. He sat stoic behind his desk flipping through a notebook full of papers. He was absolutely breathtaking. He looked up with hazel eyes to meet mine.
“Anna, what’s wrong?” He asked standing up and walking from behind his desk.
Before I knew it I ran and jumped into his arms. His hands grabbed my ass and my legs wrapped around his waist. Our lips met and fireworks exploded on my chest. His tongue traced my bottom lip and I granted him access to explore. He walked us over to his desk and sat me on top which sent paper flying everywhere. His fingers wandered under my T-shirt and over my bra causing my breath to hitch. His fingers traced the outline of my n*****s before he expertly snuck his thumbs underneath and massaged them each. He suddenly took his lips off mine and leaned next to my ear.
“We’re going to have to take this upstairs, baby” his voice was low. All I could do was nod in agreement.
. . .
“It’s not gone, you know.” I said as my hand traced circles on his bare chest. “I still remember it all and even when we were together, flashes of it still come up, but, today I was able to talk to Sage about some of it and it felt like the walls started to chip a little bit.” I snuck a glance at his face.
“I see. When you’re ready, I’m here to listen.” His eyes were sincere as he peered into mine.
“Thank you. That means a lot.” I smiled up at him.
“What else is on your mind?”
“How did you know?”
“Mate bond,” he winked as he traced the new mark on my neck. I blushed and buried my face into his chest remembering what the absolute bliss I had felt when his teeth sank into my neck.
“Why did you tell Jacob to finish me off that day?” My voice was so small I didn’t even recognize it.
Ethan sighed and rubbed his opposite hand over his eyes. “In truth, Anna, I thought you were feral. You were begging me to kill you but I couldn’t. When you heard me tell Jacob to, you sighed. You sighed in relief and it was the most human, most alive sigh that broke my heart. Your wolf came forward and recognized me as your mate and I knew that deep down you were in there somewhere.”
“That makes sense,” I said thoughtfully.
“I’ll never forgive myself for how I handled that day.” It was his turn to speak quietly.
“There’s no way you could have known, Ethan. But I am so glad you found me.” I sat up and looked into his eyes before planting a soft kiss on his mouth. His eyes shone with emotion and I laid my head back on his chest breathing him in.
“Emily told me about your mom,” I said glancing up at him. “I’m so sorry that happened.”
He pulled me in tighter and kissed the top of my head. We stayed like that for hours until Ethan’s stomach growled so loudly we were forced to find food. When we did, we ran back to the room and spent the rest of the day and night in each other’s arms learning who the other was.
