CHAPTER SIX Her eyes weren’t friendly, and she looked angrier than ever. Behind her, her puppies were cleaning their nails menacingly. Melissa glared at me. “Hi, b***h. Surprised to see us, right?” she said as she took steps forward. I shifted back fearfully. “Oh, little nerd is afraid,” Cynthia mocked, and her friend laughed. “Seriously, Melissa, what does your boyfriend find in this wrench?” Ella, one of Melissa’s lackeys, mocked. Melissa glared at me with hatred. “Nothing. She’s just one of his amusements, but since she’s becoming an eyesore, I think I should eradicate her to do the school and the world a good will,” Melissa said meanly. No girl or woman could have the heart to actually listen to such crude words. What have I ever done to them? Why should they derive joy in tormenting me? “Let me go,” I said wearily as Melissa advanced forward with her claws out. She slapped me across the face, her claws drawing blood as she did. I screamed, but that wasn’t enough. She dragged me by my hair roughly. “Let go! Let go of my hair!” I screamed painfully, but Melissa only tightened her grip while her friends laughed. “Such a pathetic thing,” Cynthia laughed. Melissa glared at me with flames in her eyes. “You should have known better than to go after my boyfriend.” “You’re insane. Who wants to go after your lunatic boyfriend?” I yelled, trying to release my hair from her grip. “You pathetic liar.” Melissa tightened her grip even more. I could almost feel my scalp pulling up. “Don’t think that I didn’t know he took you to his house yesterday,” she continued. I felt anger boiling inside me. So all this was just for a boyfriend who didn’t care about her. Maybe it was because of the anger, but I suddenly pushed her away. “If your head isn’t working, go get it checked. Do you think everyone loves a lunatic like you? Whether or not he took me home, why don’t you go ask your boyfriend?” I yelled. Cynthia and Ella laughed while Melissa looked like she could kill me. “Nerdy got some guts just because they f****d her,” Cynthia said. Ella laughed. “Who wouldn’t blame her? She must have been daydreaming about him before.” “Such a slut!” Cynthia scoffed as she popped the gum in her mouth. “Hope he f****d you well?” Melissa asked as she eyed me from head to toe, heaving with anger. “You’re insane! No one f****d me!” I said timidly, suddenly regretting what I said earlier. Damn, I shouldn’t have said that. Now Melissa looked like she was really ready to kill me. “Oh, so you think we wouldn’t know what happened between you and Evan at the house, b***h?” Cynthia smirked as she moved closer to me, tapping her boot heels on the floor while Melissa fumed. My head started spinning. I couldn’t believe what was happening, but we didn’t f**k. “Nothing happened between us,” I said truthfully. “You’re lying, Anna. You think we didn’t see you when you rushed out of his house?” Ella purred as she chuckled evilly. “OMG! This should be the latest trend in school. Nerdy being banged by the popular guy in school,” Ella laughed loudly, and Cynthia did the same. But this wasn’t funny for Melissa. It only increased her rage toward me. “No one is leaking this out. I can’t let my reputation get spoiled that my boyfriend actually banged a low-class wench like her,” Melissa said sternly, and her friends nodded. She slapped me hard across the face before I could realize what she was about to do. I fell to the floor as my glasses came crashing beside me. “Stay away from my boyfriend, b***h!” Melissa growled as she dragged my hair, forcing me to face her as we made hateful eye contact. “I would never f**k the lunatic you call a boyfriend, over my dead body.” I meant to say it boldly, but it only came out as a whimper. She gave me another dirty slap, and my cheek burned furiously, but I didn’t show the pain on my face any longer. I was used to this already — the hurt, the pain, the mockery, the embarrassment, and the humiliation. Every single thing had become a shell on my back. Even the tears had found another way to leak inside my body because I wasn’t ready to give her the satisfaction of seeing me cry in front of her. “I guess he would never want to come back to you after he finds how irritating and hideous your body looks. You’re such an amoeb—” Ella interrupted, “OMG, Amoeba! That f*****g hurts, Melissa. Now little Nerdy will know—” “She’s shapeless,” Cynthia completed the statement for Ella as she folded her arms, staring down at me with satisfaction on her face. “Imagine the grunting sounds she calls a moan,” Cynthia burst out laughing, and Ella laughed her heart out. I fought back the angry tears that tried to spill down my face. All I could do was let them rant all their rubbish at me. I was someone you would call lucky because I was given a scholarship to study here until I was through with my finals. I was happy when I first resumed and made lots of friends, but all that stopped when I met him. My tormentor. We were still in our early grades when I mistakenly bumped into him, and he pushed me away like I was some sort of disease, even though I begged and pleaded with him that I didn’t do it intentionally. Ever since that day, he made it his job to pick on and bully me, and slowly I lost my friends except Emma and Stella. No one wanted to hang out with someone the rich hated so much. They only wanted to gain favors. I couldn’t understand why powerful werewolves like them made it their daily duty to torment me. “Please let me go,” I pleaded as Melissa dragged me by my hair to the toilet. “Awwn, she’s begging!” Melissa cooed as she stared at me with the stupid pout she thought made her look cute, but instead she looked like a zombie. “Your face is already ugly as it is. How about making it uglier?” Melissa said, and before I could think, she shoved my head into the toilet. I held my breath immediately, but that didn’t stop some of the water from entering my mouth. When she pulled my head back out, I coughed violently. But before I could recover, she shoved me back again. Why? Why is it always like this? What did I do to deserve this? Was it just because I’m a human, or is fate just cruel to me? I wasn’t the only human in the school, but I was the most tormented and the most popularly known one. Is it a crime to just live and breathe? To live like others? A tear slipped from my eyes, mixing with the water as Melissa shoved me down again. I was tired. Tired of being tormented every day. Tired of being used like a discarded rag by them. Anger filled me as I suddenly raised my head with force, hitting Melissa square on the nose. She screamed and fell back with a cry. Ella and Cynthia cursed as they rushed to her, but I wasn’t listening. My head was suddenly hurting. My eyes were going from blue to gold. I couldn’t feel myself and didn’t know what was happening. All I knew was that I needed a release from the energy rushing into me. I needed to let it all out. Then I screamed. Glasses scattered everywhere, windows broke, and the ceiling gave way, while Melissa lay on the ground with Cynthia and Ella surrounding her, looking at me as if I was a ghost. After screaming, I stood there panting. After a few seconds, I suddenly felt tired and sleepy. I started to fall, but before I could reach the ground, someone sped forward and held me. Between losing consciousness, I saw him. Evan. Then everything went black.
