Chapter 2 Professor Gazzer

My name is Gazzer Rowen, I am 45 years old, I have black hair and my eyes are gold, and I am also the Grand Wizard of the Baron Kingdom, right now I am a professor at the Baron's Academy.

I was put here under the order of the King himself to watch over his daughter Eltia and guides her to become a powerful leader that will one day rule this kingdom. For me this is a pain and I wondered why did he pick me and not someone else. More or less I have to comply, and now I am in front of her classroom.

I open the door and walk towards the desk in front of me. I dreamed of the day, where a girl student just hand me a gift and said this to me.

“Oh Prof, here is a gift for you and thank you for everything you've done to help me, ehe.” with that cute smile and voice, ahh, it is everything for a teacher or professor dreamt off, but such possibility is impossible.

I take out an attendance paper and I say every name on it.

“Valeri Arvo.”

“I'm here.” she says with a cheerful expression.

Oh, so cute this girl. I then continue until my finger move to her name.

“Eltia Varis.” Varis was her late mother's last name, she wanted to remain anonymous because she does not want any special treatment, she wanted to prove to her father that she can do it with her own strengths. That is why she used her mother's last name. She reminds me of her mother because of her blue eyes. Her mother had saved me many times during the war 30 years ago, maybe that is why I agreed to watch over her. Which reminds me that next week is the anniversary of their deaths, I might pay my respect this evening.

“I'm here.” she smiled at me. She is so cute!

Sarah are you watching this right now, your daughter is so cute and that blue eyes of her made me want to do my best to teach her class. Thank you for giving birth to this wonderful young woman. I will do my best not to disappoint you.

I continue to check the class attendance and only one person is absent, I guess I will report this to that person parent. I take out my magic marker and scribble across the board.

The topic that I will teach them is about Mana Manipulation and Magic Affinity.

After that I will test their understanding and practical used of it in the training field in a one on one sparring lessons. “Alright, as you all can see on the board today's topic is about these two, Mana manipulation and Magic Affinity.”

“After I explain it to all of you, I will then test your understanding and practical use of it, in a one on one sparring at the training field this afternoon.”

As I was explaining this, the whole class began to whine for the sudden test, and some have asks me why would they listen to this and have a test when they already master mana manipulation and magic affinity.

“Raise your hand if you already mastered the level 3 spells on the text book or the sheet of paper that I had given last month?”

As I raise that question and glare at them with a serious look. Not a single hand was raise and that means they have not fully understood how to use Mana Manipulation or Magic Affinity for the level 3 spells.

I gave a deep sigh as a sign of disappointment before continuing.

“Alright listen to what I'm going to say. In the next 3 months there will be a contest involving all last years to test your abilities. The contest will open to the public to watch and the King will be there too, and I don't want any of my students to bring shame to my name or to Baron's Academy.”

I gave them a warning and a heads up about the contest. The contest will not only test their understanding or knowledge about mana manipulation or magic affinity, but also their skills and abilities.

“There is also a possibility of someone being scouted amongst all of you before you graduated, but it all depends on you to accept it or not or being scouted in the first place.”

“ Your future is depending on that contest, so do your best to not humiliate me or Baron's Academy name, especially my name.”

For someone who is a Grand Wizard watching their students fails is like a stab in the heart, especially me who is a Grand Wizard. I do not want my name to be tarnish because of a student failure, because the humiliation that I will receive in public will hurt my reputation and my chances with the ladies. So failure is not an option.

“Does anyone have any question before I start to explaining?”

I scanned across the classroom to see if anyone wanted to ask me a question but only the sound of the clock behind me was all that I heard.

“Good, now let's... ”

~ Ring Ring ~

As soon as I start to explain a loud phone ring has break the silent across the classroom. I shifted my eyes to find the sources of the sound and I found a particular person panicking to turn it off.

I walk towards the particular person desk. Now I am in front of the person desk as the phone kept ringing. I held my right hand signaling to give me the phone as I tell her this.

“Ms Varis, you do know that we're on class right?, and you're disturbing my session, would you kindly give me your phone?, you can get it back this afternoon.” I told her as her phone stop ringing. She then unwillingly gives her phone to me as another call is coming in, I shifted my eyes from her to the phone see who is calling her. One word came up.

Hubby.

So it was the boyfriend, which means the caller is him. I look at her as she tries to hide the embarrassment. It looks like an opportunity come itself because my inner self think that having them here can help the other students to use magic. I tap on the green call button and pressed the phone on my right ear.

[Hello?]

He said. I guess he thinks that I am his girlfriend. Let me crush his hope and get him and, his friend here with this response.

“Good morning mister, if you want to meet her, please come to this school this afternoon at the training field, we haven't talk in years, and I was hoping if we can catch up when you're here, and don't forget to bring the wife, I also want to talk to 'her.”

Then I press the red button to hang up.

The whole class starts to laugh, and I told them to keep quiet. She then stood up and ask me this.

“Sorry Professor for disturbing your session, but didn't you said that this afternoon that you will test us on the training field?”

She looks anxious and puzzle with that sudden invite for her boyfriend, and she is also tries very hard to hide her embarrassment.

“Yes and what about it?”

“Well, why would you invited him and his friend to come to school?”

“Ahh, you see I wanted someone that I know to help me with the test and thanks to the sudden phone call I don't have to search anymore as those two can help me. After all, they were my students 3 years ago, and I wanted to catch up with them and see if they have improved after they graduated.”

“But amongst all the person you known why invite them?”

She looked at me with a puzzle look.

“Well, you already saw them using their magic first hand, and it will be a great opportunity for you and your classmates to learn from them.”

“Let's drop this topic, I want to continue my session, if you're still questioning my decision on inviting them, just wait until the afternoon. ”

“I understood.”

She then takes a seat and covers her face. I guess she is dying from the embarrassment, but it will all works out this afternoon.

I turn myself around and move towards the board as I put Eltia's phone inside my pocket. After that, I take out my phone and write two request, then I sent it to two different people and put my phone away, I turn my head towards the students and began to explain. “Before I start explaining to you on how to manipulate mana, I will first explain about Mana. Mana as we know is the source of energy to perform magic. Without mana, one cannot perform magic. So mana is very important. There is a theory suggesting that before the universe was created there is nothing, but a singular explosion released a powerful burst of energy and created the universe as we know of, and Mana is one of the things that it created. Mana is everything and everywhere around us. As a matter of fact each person inside this classroom and outsides has mana in them.”

“Every single person has different mana quantity within themselves. Some has larger quantity and other has smaller quantity, but it all depends on mana because the quantity for each person is determined when they were just born in these world. A baby who were just born are very sensitive to mana because research shows that mana is very attracted to something or someone that is new to them. Mana will keep attracted to the newborn babies and continues to build up on how much mana can be stored until they are 1 years old. Mana will choose whoever or whatever it attracts them the most. Mana doesn't discriminate and care about your gender or race, if mana attract to you then it will come to you, no matter the situation.”

“Raise your hand if you don't understand, or you have any question?”

As a teacher explaining the fundamental about mana is not that hard, but it's all depends on how the students understand the explanation.

As I scanned the room to see if anyone raises their hand and single hand can be seen. The person who raises their hand is Reco Build.

Reco Build is one of the brilliant students in this classroom. He managed to score 90 marks on all of his test followed by Eltia, who score 87. Undoubtedly, he is Eltia's rival and maybe become one of a prominent member on this kingdom. But, his lacks of mana control and quantity became his weakness, and he needs to learn how to properly use it if he wants to get scouted.

“Alright, what are your question?”

He stood up from his chair and compose himself.

“What happened when someone's mana had been extracted, will his mana quantity remain the same or is it differs, and does the person die if their mana had been suck dry?”

He asks me a great question. I wanted to elaborate that after this, but the opportunity have arrives itself.

“Good Question, you may seat down now.” I praise him.

He then sat down on his chair as I began to explain.

“If someone's mana had been extracted, there is a possibility that it doesn't affect for a grownup's mana because they can replenish their mana, but there is a 30% chance it can kill them. For children, it is different, especially for babies aged 1 to 4 years old, because they are sensitive to mana and their mana quantity haven't fully develop. If a baby's mana had been fully extracted it could be fatal for them. There is also worth mentioning that even if those babies survive, they can't use magic or control mana. Their fate only consist of 3, and that is being dumped on the streets, s*****y or death. In some cases, if their extraction stops half way, those children can use magic, but their quantity is much lower than normal ones, and they can't cast any Elemental magic affinity that requires a lot of manas. Their quality of mana control is terrible and there will be no effect. ”

“Any more question?”

“Professor, I have a question.” I look toward the person who is calling me with her arms raises. It was Valeri.

“Okay and what is your question?”

“What is mana illness, how many types of mana illness and what other source that can cause mana illness.”

She bombarded me with multiple question.

“Slow down Ms Anko, one at a time.”

“Ahh, sorry.”

“Never mine that, Thank you for your question, I will start with what is mana illness.”

“ Mana illness is a condition where the mana is unstable and can't be control. These condition can harm the person that has it or can harm others as there were reports suggests that the mana within that person exploded releasing a powerful energy.”

“From what I had gathered, there is only 3 known mana illness and that is Burst, Low quantity, and Sensitive Mana illness.”

I continue to explain them about the 3 mana illness.

[Burst - Mana quantity overloaded and began to build up within the body and causing to explode. Research also shows that emotion play big part on 90% of the burst incident. The treatment being used is the use of sleeping pills, but excessive use of sleeping pills may result tiredness or drunk-like behavior that may lead to clumsiness or endangering themselves or people around them.]

[Low Quantity - The quantity of mana inside a person is lower than normal. The person that has this illness cannot perform magic, even if the person manage to use magic the quality of that magic is poor, and they can only last for a short period of time during a battle, as their mana quickly exhausted. The only treatment is effective for this is the use of mana pills, but the constant use of mana pills may cause the mana in their body to overflowing, and leads to explosion.]

[Sensitive - The person's body is highly sensitive to mana around them, and it will cause the person to experience nausea, dizziness, hallucination, and shock. There is also reports that the person who have this illness can hear voices and premonition. This is illness is very rare and does not have any treatment as of right now.]

“There is only 2 known cause of mana illness, but research shows that there might be more out there.”

“As I already mentioned before one of it are extraction of mana and the other one is experiment on someone's mana.”

“I won't go into details on what types of methods they used to experiment someone's mana because it's violate Human Rights, all I can tell you the candidates for this experiment is monster and human whose mana had been extracted.”

I cannot tell them the methods that being used on those human and monster because there is a possibility that it may spark interest amongst the students. The method that they used on the candidates are DNA modification and deconstruction, Monster mana to human body transplant, and vice versa, combining monster mana and human mana and many more gruesome methods. The facilities that are doing this experiment had been shutdown, but it is believed that some might still be operating illegally.After I explained about Mana to the students, I began to explain the main topic of today class that is Mana Manipulation and Mana Affinity. I started with explaining about manipulating mana.

“Mana manipulation is the ability to control mana within your body, like this.”

I concentrate my mana to my right-hand palm and a bright light can be seen gathering on top of my palm making a bright blue mana ball. After that, the ball slowly disperse into the air as I lose my connection to the mana inside my body.

“Now let me see if you can do what I just did.”

The students began to concentrate. Controlling mana is not that hard and is not that easy, they need to channel mana from their body and to do that is to feel the mana within them, and let it flow to their fingers. After that, picture the spells and affinity that they are going to do and release it. It takes practice after practice and fully understanding on how mana works to perfected it, but luckily my students manage to recreate the mana ball without a hitch.

“Good job, now to make a spell powerful you just need to add more mana to it. The more mana you add on the spell, the more powerful it is, but there is an opposite reaction when you add more mana because your body's mana quantity is limited and using more will drain it. It takes considerable amount of time to replenish it, or you can replenish it with mana pills, but using it excessively will get you mana illness. The other way is to compress it like this.”

I recreated the mana ball on my right-hand and began to add more mana to it and the ball became larger and larger. After a considerable amount of mana being added, I began to compress it by adding pressure to the ball to become brighter and smaller like the size of a volleyball.

By compressing and pressurizing the mana, the spell became much stronger than adding more mana to it. Before compressing and pressurizing mana, one must know how to control their mana.

“As you can see on my hand, the ball became small and bright as I compress it.”

Slowly the mana ball disperse into the air yet again.

“Now, let me see if you can do it.”

The students began to adding mana to their mana ball. Some students instantaneously manage to get their mana ball larger, but when they try to compress it, only 3 students that is Eltia, Cameron, and Luke manage to do it. It is easy to add mana, but to make it big, one must have a large amount of mana quantity. The hard part is when compressing and pressurizing it, because it requires a high level mana control within themselves.

Compressing and pressurizing, 2 things that is need to be considered when making a power spell. Imagine holding a hose and water coming out of it, cover half of the tip of the hose, and apply a bit of pressure on it. By adding pressure and making the hose tip narrower, the force of water became much stronger than before. Spell works just like that as long as you know how to control it.

“Hmm, this is kinda disappointed to see to be honest. Those 3 who successfully make their mana ball stronger, please explain your classmates how you do it.”

I instructed the 3 students to help their classmates. After quite some time, most of the student manage to do it, even if the size not the same. Nonetheless, It is acceptable as long as they keep training.

“Next let's start with applying a magic affinity that is elemental to our mana ball. To add an element to your spell you just need to picture the element and how it feels. It is very similar on how you picture the mana ball the first place but with the addition of elements.”

Rather than create one mana ball, I create 3 balls in less than a second. After that, I begin to concentrate and picture 3 elements on each ball simultaneously. The one on left is wind, the middle is water and the right is fire. The whole class is astonishing by what they see in front of them. I guess this is their first time seeing someone who can cast different elements in a short time. I am not going to lie, it does feel greats to be seen like that. Furthermore, I can feel my reputation getting higher. Hehe.

“Alright, now add an element to your mana ball, you don't have to create two more. This is just an example on how it looks like, because all the student in this class has these 3 elemental.”

The 3 balls that is in front of them has been dispersed into the air, as I instruct them. The students began to concentrate as their mana ball began to fill with their own element. Luckily, most of them manage to add elements on their mana ball, but the rest have problems, which mean they have not fully understood on how mana works and how to control it. So, I instructed their classmates to help them. After a while, they manage to add elements on their spell even if it is not perfect.

Magic Affinity consist of 2 things, Elemental and Devine. Each person has different magic affinity. Some can have at least 2 magic affinity, on a rare occasion there is also someone that can have 3 or more magic affinity.

Elemental affinity has 7 and that is Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Lightning, Light and Dark. Devine's affinity have only 3, and it is Holy, Shadow and Curse, but research shows that there is more Devine affinity out there somewhere to discover.

For me, I only have Elemental affinity consist of 5, which is fire, wind, lightning, dark and earth. Befitting for someone who is a Grand Wizard.

“Great, all of you manage to do it.”

As I praised them for their accomplishments. My alarm phone suddenly rings, which notifying me that my session on this class has end.

“Looks like my session has end, I will see all of you on the training field this afternoon, don't forget about that. See you there.”

With those parting words I take my leave from the class and heads to the academy office.
