Chapter 15

"Do I really have to stay at Casas Manor? Wait, which one exactly are you referring to?" "You’ve been asking questions nonstop; aren’t you tired of talking so much?" Elijah complained as they walked along a hallway, from which the vast garden of his manor was visible. "How can I not keep asking questions when you never answer any of them? So don’t complain if I get annoyed with asking." Samara shot back, stopping in her tracks when Elijah halted as well and turned to face her. "W-Why? Did I offend you with what I said?" Samara asked as Elijah looked steadily at her. "You called me by my first name." "Why? You said starting today I should address you by your name. Don’t tell me your mind changed all of a sud—" "—keep calling me by my name." Elijah cut her off, starting to walk again, leaving Samara frowning in confusion. "That man is really strange. Could the Don of Senza be bipolar?" Shaking her head, Samara hurried to catch up. Just as she did, Elijah stopped again. Immediately, Samara spotted two houses standing a short distance apart. "There are two houses inside your manor’s garden?" she blurted out in surprise. “That is the Castaños Manor—Deo, Miro, Benitez, and Salvatore stay there. They live together so they can respond quickly whenever I call. They each have their own homes, but they chose to reside there as a group. The other property is the Casas Manor; that is where you will be staying now that you are part of my underwing.” "Huh? Why am I being separated from Tadeo and the others? Shouldn’t I be staying at Castaños Manor with them?" Samara asked curiously, causing Elijah’s expression to turn serious. "You think I’d let you stay in a place full of men? I’d rather burn that manor to the ground first." "So what if I’m staying with men? I’m sure we’ll all have separate roo—" "—you’ll stay at Casas Manor, that’s my order. Let’s go." Elijah cut her off flatly before walking toward Castaños Manor. "Why do I have to stay somewhere else? Don’t tell me I’ll be the only one living in that Casas Manor?" Samara wondered to herself, until she heard Elijah call her, prompting her to follow quickly. Upon arriving at Castaños Manor, they went straight inside the spacious living room where they found Vito watching television, Lorenzo cleaning his gun, and Tadeo and Casimiro playing chess—all of whom immediately turned their attention toward them. "Oh? Silas?" Tadeo exclaimed, quickly leaving his twin’s side to approach Samara. "I thought you wouldn’t officially start as El Señor’s new underwing until next week?" Tadeo asked. "Why is everyone here? Have you all got nothing better to do?" Elijah asked in a calm but firm tone. "We finished all our business earlier today, El Señor. I already sent Congressman Dimaano’s body to the address in Moretti’s territory. Whether he was home or not is no longer my concern." Lorenzo replied. "Our external shipping has already been taken care of. All our transactions were delivered early without any problems at customs." Vito added. "Wait, El Señor, why did you bring Silas here to Castaños? Does her new role in Senza start today? Will she be staying here with u—" "—Samara will officially become part of those under my care. That means her position is now the same as yours. And she will not stay here; she will live at Casas Manor." Elijah interrupted, informing Lorenzo and the others. Samara noticed a flicker of surprise cross their faces. "Ehh?!! Silas is staying at Casas Manor? But isn’t th—" Tadeo was unable to finish his sentence as Lorenzo suddenly moved swiftly toward him and clamped a hand over his mouth. "Welcome to Senza, Piéta, Silas—you are now an official member of the organization and no longer just an associate. You are the first woman to ever hold the same rank as us." Lorenzo greeted her, while Tadeo struggled to pull Lorenzo’s hand away from his mouth. "I-It looks like Tadeo has something he wants to say…" "Don’t mind this naive fool. I’m just stopping him from speaking words that don’t need to be said right now." Lorenzo said with a smile. "I’ll take you now to Casas Manor. Come with us, Benitez." Elijah said plainly, prompting Vito to stand up from his seat. "Let’s go, Samara." Elijah said. Even though Samara glanced back at Lorenzo and Tadeo, she simply shrugged her shoulders and walked away with Elijah and Vito. Once Samara was gone, Lorenzo removed his hand from Tadeo’s mouth. Tadeo immediately wiped his lips and glared sharply at Lorenzo. "Dammit, Salvatore! Didn’t you just come from the bathroom before cleaning your gun?! You put that dirty hand of yours on my mouth—for all I know you wiped it on your ass, you i***t!" Tadeo snapped, causing Lorenzo to grin at him. "Oh come on, Penecarte the Second—my hands are cleaner than that foul mouth of yours. You should actually be thanking me; I just saved your life. Your tongue was this close to getting cut off." "What the hell are you talking about?!" "Your tongue almost slipped and revealed to Silas that the Casas Manor was built by Penelton’s deceased mother for the future lady of Senza. That is what Salvatore was saying." Casimiro explained flatly, making Tadeo raise an eyebrow. "So what?" "Is your brain really that slow to catch on, Penecarte the Second? If Silas found out why Casas Manor was built, what do you think she would assume about El Señor? Some of us suspect El Señor is interested in Silas, but this would definitely change how she sees things. What do you think will happen once she realizes why El Señor is suddenly paying so much attention to her? Silas would most likely choose to go back to being just an associate, especially since so far it seems only El Señor is developing feelings. You know how El Señor acts, yet you’re acting like you’re clueless—and you dare to ask questions when you’re this slow?" Lorenzo said with a smirk, leaving Tadeo momentarily speechless. "Does that mean Silas is going to be our future lady someday?" Casimiro asked, as Lorenzo turned and walked back toward his previous seat. "Who knows. El Señor is showing interest in Silas, but it might fade in the coming days. We’ll just have to wait and see if his feelings are temporary, until he gets bored—or if they become permanent. And like you said, Penecarte the First, maybe Silas really will become the lady of Senza." "What exactly does El Señor see in Silas anyway? Sure, she’s pretty, but she’s tougher and more masculine-looking than I am." Tadeo remarked, as they all turned their attention toward Corazon, who had just arrived. "Did El Señor come here with your new member? Where is he now?" Corazon asked Lorenzo and the others. "El Señor already left for Casas Manor. You won’t be able to follow him there, Corazon—no one is allowed to set foot on the grounds except El Señor and the person who will be staying there." Lorenzo replied. "Do you need to speak with El Señor?" Tadeo asked, making Corazon look at him. "Ms. Soleil is here to visit him." "Huh? Hasn’t El Señor already forbidden Ms. Carvajal from entering this property? You let her in, Corazon?" Lorenzo reprimanded her. "But she begged and pleaded—she just wants to see him. I didn’t see any harm in it." Corazon answered, as Casimiro stood up and walked toward her. "You are not the one to decide about things that El Señor has already prohibited. You remain here at the Penelton manor only because you have served the family for a long time. But know your position, Corazon. You are not the lady of the house—you are a servant." Casimiro said plainly before walking away, followed by Tadeo and Lorenzo. Corazon was left standing alone, her face clearly showing her irritation over Casimiro’s words.
