In a room untouched by sunlight, Reeve Landerson entered with a first aid kit and placed it on the bed.
"Are you a vampire, averse to light in your room?" he quipped, heading towards the window. He drew back the curtains, revealing Gustavo, his head bandaged from Samara's blow, now bathed in light.
"I've brought you a fresh bandage for your head. Your wound is still raw, so clean it again, or would you like me to—"
"—Shut the f*ck up! Can't you just leave?"
"Why are you so ill-tempered? You're staying in my house, and you're still snapping at me," Reeve said, seating himself on a single sofa, his gaze fixed on Gustavo, who sat on the bed.
He had been surprised last night when Gustavo appeared at his door, his head bloody. As they shared the same mother, and Reeve was the older brother, he took him in and learned what had happened.
"I'm still f*cking pissed off!"
"I told you, being angry about what happened last night won't change anything. By the way, are you still interested in getting the woman you're crazy about, after what she did to you?" Reeve asked, causing Gustavo to stand up from the bed.
"Of course! Samara is mine, and she should only be mine!"
"Even after she did that to you?" Reeve pointed to Gustavo's bandaged head, which Gustavo dismissively waved off.
"She's just playing hard to get, but once I have her, the situation will reverse, and she'll be chasing me. I'm f*cking pissed off because of Penelton! If he hadn't shown up, I would have claimed Samara already!" Gustavo declared, making Reeve slightly smirk. He rose from his seat and approached Gustavo.
"Why don't you focus on taking down Penelton first? I sent Isval to your house, and all the transactional documents you got from Senza are gone. You're back to zero, Gustavo," Reeve informed him, causing Gustavo to slump onto the sofa.
"I'll take them back—no, scratch that, I'll take everything Penelton has. I'll kill him to take over the Senza Pietá, I'll strip his name from the mafia world, and my name will replace his. You'll help me, won't you, big brother?" Gustavo said, making Reeve sigh.
"If our father hadn't entrusted you to me before he died, I wouldn't interfere with what you do. But because you're my brother, I'll help you. But we need to plan it carefully; you're trying to roast a big fish. Let's slowly plan a way to make the great Penelton vanish into thin air," Reeve said, and Gustavo grinned.
"And once I dominate Senza, I'll also get Samara."
Reeve shook his head at his brother's obsession with a woman, but he couldn't do anything but support him in his desires. Reeve Landerson is part of an Insurgent organization who actively fights against a recognized government, often for political, ethnic, or separatist reasons. They exert control over territory and populations.
Reeve is the commander-in-chief who has direct armed operations.
"Change that bandage on your head, and for now, don't do anything against Penelton," Reeve instructed, knowing Gustavo would find it hard but would obey him.
"And stop pursuing that woman first. Isval told me she's an associate of that Senza."
"She's not an official member, and I have a plan to get her," Gustavo replied.
"That woman banged your f*cking head on a freaking wall, yet you still want her?"
"I like that woman," Gustavo answered, making Reeve shake his head slightly.
"You don't like that woman; you're just obsessed with having her. Just change that bandage on your head before your madness for that woman gets worse," Reeve said, walking out of the room he had lent to Gustavo.
As Reeve left the room, he immediately took out his phone and called his right-hand man, Isval.
"Gather them, Isval. I have something to tell all of you," Reeve commanded before hanging up.
"It wouldn't be bad to deviate a bit and do something else. I also want to know how to go against a mafia," Reeve mused before finally leaving.
THAT NIGHT, many customers once again flocked to the club where Samara worked. Businessmen, businesswomen, even government officials, and most of them involved in illegal dealings, were unaware that the club they were in was owned by Elijah.
"What?! Mr. Penelton wants me transferred under his wing? Is he out of his mind—" Samara couldn't finish her sentence as Taddeo covered her mouth.
Samara was working when Taddeo suddenly appeared at the club and borrowed an hour of her time. They were outside the club, where Taddeo delivered the news of her promotion to Samara.
"You really have no filter, Silas. Show some respect for Il Capo," Taddeo grumbled, prompting Samara to swat his hand away from her mouth.
"What did Mr. Penelton eat that he wants me under his wing? Did my punch knock some sense into him that he's even giving me a promotion?"
"Don't you want that? Il Capo didn't punish you, but he promoted you to be part of his underwing. That means you'll become an official member of Senza," Taddeo explained, making Samara cross her arms and fall silent for a moment.
"Look at the freaking bright side, Silas, you'll become an official member of Senza, which means you'll have more resources to find what you're looking for. Think about that, it's a good opportunity, isn't it?" Taddeo elaborated.
"What if Mr. Penelton put me under his wing to make my life difficult, to get back at me for what I did?" Samara suspected, and Taddeo gave her a poker face.
"If Il Capo wanted to make your life difficult, he could do that while you're under my supervision as one of my associates. Besides, Il Capo doesn't make things difficult; he prefers immediate death," Taddeo said, making Samara put her hands on her hips.
"Then why did he transfer me to his supervision? What for?"
"Don't ask me because even I don't know, okay? Wait, don't you want it?" Taddeo asked.
"Even as an unrecognized member of Senza, I'll get leads on who and where to find the killer of my parents. Please tell Mr. Penelton that I'm not accepting his offer, especially since I don't like his attitude," Samara firmly declared, making Taddeo grab her by both arms.
"Don't ever show that attitude to Il Capo again, I'm telling you, Silas, you'll meet your end prematurely," Taddeo scolded, and Samara pulled away from his grasp.
"I'm going back to work, and to give you a heads-up. Congressman Dimaano is coming tonight; he's one of the bystanders meeting with Saul," Samara announced, making Taddeo frown.
"Saul? You mean Saul Tieves, my twin's associate?"
"The very same. Just because Senza Pietá is feared doesn't mean no one will dare betray it. And since Saul is unrecognized, he chose to betray Senza," Samara said, tapping Taddeo's shoulder before leaving him.
"Does my twin know about Saul?" Taddeo wondered, taking out his phone and calling Elijah, who answered immediately.
"Are you waiting for my call—"
"—What did she say about her promotion?" Elijah interrupted Taddeo.
"She declined, Il Capo."
"What?!" Elijah roared on the other end of the line, slightly startling Taddeo.
"I—I was also surprised when she declined your offer, Il Capo," Taddeo replied, wondering why Elijah had hung up on him.
"Weird. Il Capo seems different today. Is this what Benitez was talking about, that something has changed with Il Capo?" Taddeo mused to himself when he noticed a newly arrived car, from which a man in a black suit emerged.
"Who the hell is that dude?" Taddeo wondered because the man's face seemed familiar, but he couldn't quite place why.
Taddeo dismissed his observation of the man who had already entered the club and was about to head to his car when his phone rang.
He looked at the screen; it was Casimiro calling him, and he answered with a smile.
"Twin! I'm really happy when you're the first one to call us. Anyway, I have news for you—"
"—What did you tell Il Capo that he wants us to go to the club right now?" Casimiro interrupted Taddeo, who frowned.
"You and Il Capo are coming here to the club? I didn't say anything except Silas declining his offer."
"Wait for us; we're leaving the manor now. I have this f*cking feeling why Il Capo is acting strange like this," Casimiro said, and before Taddeo could ask another question, he was gone from the line.
"What the? Don't tell me Il Capo will personally talk to Silas about his offer?" Taddeo muttered, confused by Elijah's behavior after his encounter with Samara.
