Amara Okoro had never been inside a building this tall.
The elevator doors opened to the 45th floor of Cole Tower, and the air itself felt expensive. Cold. Silent. Like the man who owned it.
"You must be Miss Okoro. Mr. Cole will see you now."
Amara adjusted her cheap handbag, her heart pounding so loud she was sure the receptionist could hear it. She needed this job. Not wanted — needed. Her mother was in LUTH, waiting for surgery she could not afford. This PA interview was her last hope.
The office was massive, all glass and steel. And behind the desk sat Lagos' youngest billionaire.
Jason Cole didn't look up at first. He was in a black suit, his jaw sharp, his eyes focused on three monitors. When he finally did, Amara forgot how to breathe.
He was more handsome in person. And colder.
"Amara Okoro. 24. Unilag first class. Intern at two startups. You are... pretty, but that does not qualify you for this job," he said, his voice low and detached.
Amara swallowed. "I am very hardworking, sir. I learn fast."
He leaned back. "I don't need hardworking. I need invisible. Obedient. Someone who signs what I tell her to sign and asks no questions."
That was strange. But she nodded.
He slid a document across the desk. It wasn't an employment letter.
It was a marriage certificate.
Amara's eyes widened. "Sir?"
"My grandfather's will says I must be married before 30 to inherit Cole Group. I am 29. I need a wife for one year. No love. No touching unless necessary. You will live in my mansion, attend events, and in return, I will pay you 50 million naira. Enough for your mother's surgery and more."
Fifty million.
Amara's hands shook. "You want me to... marry you?"
"I want you to sign a contract. Be my convenient wife. After one year, we divorce quietly. You go back to your life."
She should say no. This was crazy. He was arrogant, rude, a man who hated women.
But she thought of her mother on that hospital bed.
"When do I start?" she whispered.
A small, almost cruel smile touched his lips.
"Welcome to your new life, Mrs. Cole," he said.
And just like that, her biggest break became a deal with the devil himself.
