The capital was alive. From early morning the streets were filled with movement. Carriages rolled across the wide stone roads, carrying nobles from every corner of the empire. Servants rushed in and out of grand houses, holding boxes of jewels, silk dresses, and polished shoes. Everyone was preparing for the same thing. The royal party. --- Inside one of the most luxurious mansions in the capital, a group of young noble ladies sat together, surrounded by mirrors and soft lights. Excitement filled the room. “Did you hear?” one of them whispered. “The Duke is really coming” Another girl gasped softly. “Duke Adrian Blackwood… I heard he rejected every marriage proposal” “He did,” a third added quickly. “That’s why this is our chance.” A soft laugh followed. “Imagine becoming the Duchess of Blackwood…” The room fell quiet for a moment. Every girl there had the same thought. Power. Status. Respect. And a man no one could control. --- In front of the largest mirror stood Lady Seraphina Vale. She was dressed in a pale gold gown that fit her perfectly. Her blonde hair was styled neatly, and every detail of her appearance was flawless. Elegant Graceful Perfect A maid carefully adjusted the last piece of her necklace. “My lady,” she said softly, “you look beautiful” Seraphina smiled gently. “Of course” she replied. But her eyes held something deeper. Something colder. --- “Is everything ready?” she asked. “Yes my lady. Just as you ordered.” Seraphina nodded slowly. Her fingers lightly touched the edge of the table beside her. For a moment, her mind went back to that night. The party The plan The drink --- Her smile faded slightly. “He should have been mine” she whispered under her breath. No one heard her. --- But the memory burned inside her. She had prepared everything perfectly. Every detail. Every move. And yet— Someone had ruined it. Her eyes darkened. “I will not fail again,” she said quietly. This time, her voice was firm --- Across the capital, in another part of the city… The atmosphere was completely different. --- A small, simple room. No luxury. No bright lights. Just silence. --- A young woman stood near the window, holding the same golden invitation. Her long red hair fell loosely over her shoulders. Her dress was simple. Her expression calm. --- Elara Vance. --- She looked at the words on the paper again. The royal seal. The grand party. --- For most people, it was an opportunity. For her It was something else. --- A risk --- She closed her eyes for a moment. As if thinking. As if remembering something. --- Then she opened them again. Clear. Steady. --- “I have no choice,” she whispered softly. --- Behind her, an older woman watched quietly. “You don’t have to go” the woman said gently. Elara turned slightly. “Yes, I do” --- There was no fear in her voice. Only quiet determination “If I don’t,” she continued, “everything will get worse.” The older woman looked worried. “But that place… it’s dangerous.” Elara gave a small, calm smile. “I know.” She placed the invitation down carefully. Her fingers rested on it for a moment longer than necessary. --- “This is just one night,” she said. “Nothing more.” --- But deep inside— Even she was not sure if that was true. --- Back at the royal palace… The grand hall was finally ready. Golden chandeliers lit up the entire space. Music instruments were placed carefully near the stage. Long tables were filled with the finest food and wine. Everything was perfect. Everything was prepared. --- Servants stood in line. Waiting. Outside, the first carriage arrived. Then another. And another. Nobles stepped out one by one, dressed in their finest clothes. The air was filled with polite smiles and quiet competition. --- “Look at her dress…” “Did you hear about that family…” “They say the Duke will arrive late…” --- Every word carried hidden meaning. Every glance carried intention. --- Inside the hall, the Crown Prince stood near the entrance. Lucien Ardent watched everything with a calm expression. But his eyes were sharp. Observing. Thinking. --- “Everything is in place,” a servant said softly beside him. Lucien nodded. --- “Good,” he replied. --- His gaze moved across the crowd. Then, for a brief moment— He smiled. --- “Tonight,” he said quietly, “will be interesting.” --- Time passed slowly. More guests arrived. The hall grew louder. Brighter. More tense. --- And then— A sudden silence spread near the entrance. --- One carriage stopped outside. Black. Simple. Yet impossible to ignore. --- The guards straightened immediately. The servants lowered their heads. Even the nobles paused. --- “The Duke…” someone whispered. The large doors opened slowly. And then— He stepped in. --- Duke Adrian Blackwood. --- Dressed in black, just like always. Simple. Elegant. Powerful. --- His presence alone changed the atmosphere. The music seemed quieter. The air felt heavier. --- Every eye turned toward him. --- Some filled with admiration. Some with fear. Some with desire. --- But Adrian noticed none of it. --- His expression remained the same. Cold. Unmoved. --- He walked forward slowly. Each step steady. Controlled. --- People moved aside without being told. No one dared to block his path. --- Near the center of the hall, he stopped. And somewhere, at the far end of the hall… A pair of calm eyes watched everything. --- Red hair. Simple dress. Quiet presence. --- Elara Vance had arrived --- And without knowing it— She was about to change everything. ---
