📖 Chapter 6: The Emperor’s Shadow The moment the servant’s voice echoed... Everything stopped. Music. Whispers. Movement. “The Emperor has arrived!” In an instant, the entire hall changed. Every noble straightened. Every servant lowered their head. Even the air felt heavier. The large golden doors opened slowly. And then... He entered. The Emperor. Dressed in deep gold and black, his presence alone carried authority. His steps were steady. His gaze sharp. No one dared to meet his eyes for long. Behind him stood royal guards, silent and unmoving. “Your Majesty!” The entire hall bowed at once. Adrian stepped back slightly from Elara. His expression returned to its usual calm. Cold. Controlled. Elara lowered her head as well. But her heart was still racing. “That was close…” she thought. The moment between them... Was gone. The Emperor walked to the center of the hall. Crown Prince Lucien stepped forward immediately. “Father,” Lucien said, bowing deeply. The Emperor gave a small nod. “You’ve prepared well” Lucien smiled faintly. “I did my best.” The Emperor’s eyes moved slowly across the hall. Observing everything. Everyone. When his gaze passed over Adrian.... It paused. “Duke Blackwood” he said. Adrian stepped forward and bowed. “Your Majesty” The two men looked at each other. Silence filled the space between them. “You returned from the north recently” the Emperor said. “Yes” “The borders are stable?” “They are” The Emperor nodded once. Satisfied. “Good” Simple words. But they carried weight. The Emperor trusted him. That much was clear. Around them, nobles whispered quietly. “The Emperor values him…” “The Duke is truly powerful…” “No one else is like him…” Not far away... Seraphina watched everything. Her expression had returned to calm. Her smile soft. Perfect again. But inside.. She was burning. “That woman…” she thought. Her eyes moved toward Elara. Standing quietly. As if nothing had happened. As if she didn’t just catch the Duke’s attention. Seraphina’s fingers tightened slightly. “I need to know who she is” Meanwhile.... Elara kept her head lowered. She could feel it. The pressure. The danger. Being noticed by the Duke was already risky. But now... The Emperor was here. “This is not good” she thought. She slowly stepped back. Trying to disappear into the crowd again. But someone noticed. Crown Prince Lucien. His eyes followed her movement carefully. Interesting. Very interesting. He turned slightly toward Adrian. “Your Grace,” he said lightly “you seem distracted tonight” Adrian’s expression did not change. “I am not” Lucien smiled. “But you were about to walk away with a lady just now” A small pause. Adrian’s gaze shifted slightly. “I was not” Lucien chuckled. “If you say so” But he didn’t believe him. Not even a little. At the same time... Music started again. Softer this time. More formal. The Emperor had taken his seat. The party continued. But now... Everyone was more careful. More controlled. “Let the dance begin” a royal servant announced. Couples slowly moved forward again. This time... No one dared to approach Adrian first. Not after what just happened. But Seraphina was different. She stepped forward gracefully. Her smile gentle. Her eyes soft. “Your Grace” she said quietly. Adrian looked at her. “Would you honor me with a dance?” The question was simple. But the entire hall seemed to wait for his answer. Lucien watched with interest. The nobles held their breath. Adrian was silent for a moment. Then... “No” Once again. Clear. Cold. Seraphina’s smile froze. Just for a second. But she recovered quickly. “I understand” she said softly. She stepped back. Graceful Perfect But inside... Something cracked. “He refused me… again” Her eyes darkened slightly. “This is not over” Meanwhile... Elara had moved further away. Near the open balcony doors. Cool night air touched her face. She took a slow breath. “I should leave” she whispered. But her feet didn’t move. Something held her there. Something she couldn’t explain. Inside the hall— Adrian stood still. But his eyes— Moved Searching. Until they found her again Near the balcony. l Alone His gaze lingered. Why? He didn’t know. But he couldn’t look away. Lucien noticed. And this time... He didn’t say anything He only smiled Because now... He was sure. Something had changed Outside, the night sky was dark. The moon hidden behind clouds. And somewhere in that quiet darkness... Fate continued to move. Slowly Silently And dangerously.
