📖 Chapter 9: The Trap is Set The moment Adrian left.... The balcony felt colder. Elara stood still, staring at the empty doorway. “I’ll find you” His words echoed in her mind. She didn’t understand why. Why him? Why her? Why now? “This is bad” she whispered. She turned toward the garden. The dark path looked peaceful. Quiet. Safe. “I should leave before he comes back” Her decision was clear. No more risks. No more attention. She took a step forward— “Leaving so soon?” A voice stopped her. Elara froze. Slowly.... She turned. Seraphina stood there. Alone. --- Her smile was still there. Beautiful. Perfect. --- But now— There was no one else around. No need to pretend. “I thought you would stay longer” Seraphina said softly. Elara remained calm. “I have no reason to stay” Seraphina walked closer. Slow. Graceful. “Oh, I think you do” Elara didn’t move. “Do I?” Seraphina stopped a few steps away. “Yes,” she said quietly. “Because you seem very interested in someone… important” The meaning was clear. Elara met her gaze. “I’m not interested in anyone” Seraphina laughed softly. “That’s not what I saw.” A pause. “You were very close to the Duke.” --- Elara stayed silent. “That kind of closeness…” Seraphina continued “is not something he gives easily.” Her eyes narrowed slightly. “So tell me…” “Who are you really?” The question hung in the air. Elara answered calmly. “I already told you.” Seraphina’s smile disappeared. “No” she said quietly. “You told me a name” Her voice turned colder. “I asked who you are” Silence. The wind moved softly around them. Elara held her ground. “That’s all you need to know” For a second..... Seraphina just looked at her. Then...... She smiled again. But this time... It was different. --- Sharp. --- “I don’t like you” she said simply. Elara didn’t react. --- “That’s fine.” The calm answer made Seraphina’s eyes darken. “You should be careful” Seraphina continued. Her voice was soft. Dangerous. “This place… is not kind to people without power” Elara looked at her quietly. “I know” Seraphina stepped closer. “Do you?” --- Their distance closed. “Because if you don’t… you might get hurt” Elara didn’t step back. Her eyes stayed steady. “Are you warning me?” Seraphina tilted her head slightly. “No” A small pause. “I’m threatening you” Silence. The words were clear. Direct. Elara felt it. The danger. But she didn’t show fear. “I see” she said quietly. Seraphina studied her face. Still calm. Still steady. “That confidence…” she thought. “I will break it” Suddenly..... Seraphina stepped back. Her expression changed again. Soft. Sweet. Like nothing had happened. “You should be careful on your way out,” she said gently. Elara frowned slightly. “What do you mean?” Seraphina smiled. “The palace is big” Her eyes glinted. “It’s easy to get lost” Something in her tone..... Felt wrong. Very wrong. Elara’s instincts told her...... “Leave..... Now” Without another word..... She turned and walked toward the garden path. Seraphina watched her go. Her smile slowly grew. “Let’s see how lucky you are” She lifted her hand slightly. From the shadows.... A servant stepped forward. Not a palace servant. Someone else. “Follow her” Seraphina ordered quietly. “And make sure… she doesn’t come back” -l The man nodded. “Yes, my lady” He disappeared into the darkness. Seraphina turned back toward the hall. Her face calm again. Perfect. As if nothing had happened. Inside..... The party continued. Meanwhile..... In the Emperor’s chamber..... Adrian stood tall. The Emperor sat before him. “You seem distracted tonight” the Emperor said. Adrian’s expression remained cold. “I am not” The Emperor looked at him carefully. “You’ve said that already” Silence. Then..... “You rarely attend events like this” the Emperor continued. “Yet tonight… you seem interested” Adrian said nothing. The Emperor leaned back slightly. “Should I be concerned?” A pause. “No” The answer was short. Firm. But for the first time.... The Emperor wasn’t fully convinced. Meanwhile...... Outside in the garden..... Elara walked quickly. The path was quiet. Too quiet. The lights were fewer here. The shadows deeper. Her steps slowed. “Something’s wrong…” She could feel it. A presence. Someone behind her. She stopped. The night held its breath. Then...... A sound. A step. Elara turned..... A man stepped out from the shadows. Tall. Silent. Dangerous. Her heart dropped. “Who are you?” she asked. The man didn’t answer. He moved forward. Slowly. Elara stepped back. “I don’t want trouble” she said. Still..... No response. Only silence. And then...... He reached for her. Fast. Too fast. Elara tried to move..... But her foot slipped slightly on the stone path. Her balance broke.... She fell..... But before she could hit the ground...... A strong hand caught her. Firm. Steady. Everything stopped. Elara looked up.... And her breath caught. Adrian. His arm held her securely. His eyes.... Dark. Cold. Dangerous. The man froze. Fear flashed across his face. Adrian’s gaze moved to him slowly “What do you think you’re doing?” His voice was low. Deadly. The man stepped back. “I—I—” He couldn’t speak. Because in that moment.... He knew. He had made a mistake. A very bigmistake. Adrian stepped forward slightly. Still holding Elara. “Leave” One word. The man didn’t hesitate. He ran. Disappeared into the darkness. Silence returned. Elara’s heart was still racing. She looked up at Adrian. “You came back…” Adrian looked down at her. “I told you I would.” --- Their eyes met. --- For a moment.... Everything else faded. The danger. The fear. The night. --- Only him. Only her. And the feeling between them.... Stronger than before. Much more dangerous.
